Not related to the article but isn't her name Kitano Kii? At least that's how it's written in kana. So why does everyone use Kie (her nickname)?

Both her agency web-foster and avex translate her name as "Kitano Kie", that's why I started to write her name like that as well. Since that's the only real "official" source I know.
