Canadian pop singer Justin Bieber met one of Japan’s top idol groups, SMAP, on May 18th, during the filming of an episode of “SMAPxSMAP“.
Afterwards, Bieber tweeted “SMAP SMAP SMAP SMAP SMAP SMAP….SMAP” three times on his Twitter account. The pop singer has over 9 million followers on Twitter and the term “SMAP SMAP” soon became a trending word in the US. Although some of those who re-tweeted SMAP probably have no idea what it stands for, it’s good to see the veteran group getting some attention outside of Japan.
You can watch Bieber and the members of SMAP interact on the May 30th episode of “SMAPxSMAP”. The episode wiill also feature actor Mukai Osamu in the detective drama, “THE BUDDY“, and actress Takashima Reiko, comedian Gekidan Hitori, and others in the “Bistro SMAP” segment.
