i have no one to blame for this but my own cracktastic brain. not quite a proper fic, but longer than a drabble. more of a scene than anything, but a scene that would explain an awful lot...
It wasn't meant to go like this. I'm not even really supposed to be here. I heaved a great sigh and walked through the door into the conference room.
Funny thing, there's no-one here at all...
"You're going about this all wrong," Red sneered in surround sound, seemingly everywhere and nowhere at once.
"How would you suggest I do things, then? You'll have to forgive me, I'm a bit new at this," I replied. So this is the way you do things. Wish I could look you in the eye, at least...
"For a start, you've been far too lenient as of late. I've found, as a rule, that persistence is key to achieving the goals of our mission." Red responded disdainfully.
"What do you mean by 'too lenient'? We'll never achieve anything if we send him completely round the bend!" I paced as explosively as possible, which was rather more difficult than one might expect, given the shoes I was wearing had such soft soles.
"I'm afraid I can't agree with you there. I believe that's precisely where we need to send him. If you can't do it on your own, I'm afraid I shall have to take steps of my own." Red nodded in agreement with her smugly superior self. Or I'm certain she would have done had I been able to see her.
"Alice was right," I muttered darkly.
"I'm afraid I didn't quite hear you. Could you please speak up?" Red was looking down her nose at me, I could feel it.
"Nothing, nothing. We'll try your way, but I'll be registering an official complaint later, of that you can be absolutely sure." I pulled my clown tight underneath my left arm, up against my side, and walked out of the room.

"Is all going according to plan?" the ginger-headed, bespectacled, kindly looking gentleman in the forest green jumper smiled down at his intercom.
"I do think she'll come round eventually and see our way," Red responded.
"Good. See you do everything in your power to make sure she stays on track."
Neil leaned back in his chair and sucked on his pipe contemplatively. Good thing Bharat introduced me to Red. Pity all precociously evil blonde girls aren't so...biddable.
