"Rose!"

Rose Tyler scowled and tried to burrow further beneath her blankets as she heard her name echo through the hallway. Maybe if she didn't answer he'd leave her alone and she could go back to sleep.

"Rose Marion Tyler!"

Darn. "What do you want, Doctor?"

The door to her room flew open and the light was switched on. "Where are my jacket and sonic screwdriver?!"

She sat up to glare at him. "How should I know?"

"Because you were the last one to have them, remember?"

"Oh, right. Well, I put them in the console room after we got back. They aren't there?"

"No," he said grumpily, folding his arms over his dark green jumper.

"Have you asked Jack?"

"He's not up yet. And besides, he knows what I'd do to him if he touched them."

"Right. Fine, I'll help you look," she muttered as she climbed out of her nice warm bed, shivering a bit as her feet touched the cold grating of the floor.

He leaned against the doorframe and frowned as she turned to gather a t-shirt and jeans. "Well?"

"I need to get dressed first."

"Ah. Right."

She raised an eyebrow and smirked. "You need to leave so I can?"

He almost tripped over his own feet in his hurry to get out and Rose grinned. So predictable, he was.

~..~

"So where should we start looking?"

"Last place they were. The console room."

"I thought you already looked there. Why look again?"

"Because the TARDIS might be playing tricks and moved them there."

"What, you mean the TARDIS might have lost them? On purpose?"

He nodded. "Wouldn't have been the first time."

"But...it's just a machine!"

An angry hum rose from the walls and the lights went out.

The Doctor sighed. "She's a lot more than just a machine, Rose. She's alive and now you've made her angry. Better apologize before she decides to turn off the heating."

"Oh...um, I'm sorry, TARDIS?"

The hum lessened and the lights slowly came up.

"See? That solves everything. Now, let's get going. I want to find them before we get to the next planet."

"Wait, if the TARDIS is alive, why don't you just ask her to tell you where your things are?"

"Don't you think I've already tried? She's hidden them so we need to look."

"Alright, but I still think we should ask Jack if he's seen them."

~..~

"Found it!" Rose shouted as she crawled out from behind a large pile of boxes. "Oh never mind. It's just some piece of metal tubing. Why do you have all this stuff anyway?"
                                                                                  ,
The Doctor climbed over another pile and brushed a cloud of dust off his hands. "What do you think I fix the TARDIS with? A kettle and a ball of string? These boxes all have spare parts in them."

"Really? All of them?"

"Of course! Don't you think I know what's in my own ship?"

Rose grinned and held up a long black recorder. "And what's this for then? Steering mechanism?"

He scowled and snatched it from her. "That's not supposed to be in here," he said, throwing a glare to the ceiling. " 'S supposed to be with the rest of my old stuff."

"Your old stuff? You mean you can play that?"

"Well yeah. Why else would I have it?" He grinned and blew into it, coughing as a cloud of dust and dirt flew out of the end.

Rose giggled. "Maybe it's been sitting around too long?"

He sighed. "Yeah I suppose. No luck yet?"

"No, and we've searched almost everywhere. Why don't we go ask Jack now?"

"Nah, I'm going to keep looking here. You can go ask him if you like, but I doubt he'll know anything."

"We'll see. Good luck!"

When she was out the door, the Doctor turned and regarded the remaining piles with a loud sigh. "Where did you put them, old girl?"

~..~

"Oh, Doctor!" Rose called cheerfully as she skipped into the console room.

He poked his head up from underneath the grating and grinned. "Oh, well done, Rose! Where were they?"

She smiled and handed the jacket and sonic screwdriver to him. "In Jack's room."

He froze as he was putting an arm into the sleeve of his jacket. "What?"

"They were in Jack's room. Sitting on his chair."

"Did he say why they were there?" he asked quietly, face darkening.

"Yes, actually. He said they'd just showed up a little bit before I came to ask. He didn't steal them."

"Ah."

The console whirred slightly, as if the TARDIS was laughing.

"Oh, very funny. See if I repair that leaky hose for you now."

A small shower of sparks shot out of the console and the floor lurched sideways, sending Rose into the Doctor's arms.

She grinned up at him. "I think she's angry now! What do you think, Doctor?"

"I'm sorry, TARDIS!" he called with a smirk.

The floor righted itself but the Doctor kept his hold on Rose. "So, Rose Tyler, bit of an adventure today, and we haven't even left the TARDIS yet. Pretty fun, huh?"

She rolled her eyes. "Yeah, digging in old musty boxes, not knowing if some man-eating creature is gonna pop out...definitely what I'd call a great day. I smell like mold and I'm covered in dirt."

"Well that's nothing new, is it?" He immediately knew he'd said something wrong as Rose stiffened and her eyes darkened.

"You saying I'm usually covered in mess?"

"No, no that's not what I meant at all. I mean, sure it happens sometimes when we're say, chasing down some bog monster but the rest of the time you look absolutely beauti..." He trailed off, face going red as he quickly let go of her and stepped back.

"Doctor?"

"I...I just remembered. I left a box of explosives sitting on a box of china in one of the storage rooms. Very dangerous explosives. Better go check on it or we might..." He stopped suddenly as Rose stepped up to him and placed her hand gently on the side of his face.

"What were you about to say?"

"I...I said 'besides, Rose Tyler'."

"And? How were you gonna finish that?"

"I was...oh bugger it all" He leaned down and swiftly caught her lips with his.

"Hey, Doc, I found a..." Jack stopped dead as he entered the console room. "Oh, all right!"

Both the Doctor and Rose turned to glare at him.

"What? I'm happy for you! Just wish I could get in on some of that."

"As if, Captain," the Doctor said, with a smirk before moving to kiss a giggling Rose again.
