"I can't believe it! We actually landed where you said we were going to!"

"Oi, less of the surprise! This isn't the first time it's happened," the Doctor snapped, folding his leather-clad arms and glaring at his companion.

Rose grinned. "Sure, but it's the first time in a long while that. Now come on, I want to go check out some of these shops!"

The Doctor scowled and leaned back against the TARDIS. "No thanks. I'll wait here."

"Oh, come on, please? I don't wanna go alone!"

"Rose, we're on Earth. In a shopping mall in America on Earth. Nothing is going to happen."

"What about store dummies?"

"I scanned for any Autons as soon as I saw where we landed."

"Slitheen then. There might be some of those!"

"Rose, they're Raxacoricofallapatorians. Slitheen were just that one family. Now go on, you'll be fine."

"Please?" she pleaded.

"Fine," he muttered after a few moments of trying to avoid her eyes. "But I'm not carrying your packages!"

"Thank you!" Rose squealed as she threw her arms around him and pressed a quick kiss to his cheek, ignoring the slightly shocked passersby.

He flushed and quickly disentangled himself. "Oi, none of that! We're not in nineteen-sixties London, you know."

"Right. So, I assume you have money?"

"Yes, Rose, I have the proper currency," he said exasperatedly as he pulled a small bundle of green bills from his pocket.
"Should be around a hundred dollars there. Plenty for a short shopping trip."

"Only a hundred, hm? Well I guess it'll be enough. Let's go!"

The Doctor rolled his eyes but let his companion drag him away from the safety of the TARDIS and into the steady stream of shoppers.

Three hours later he was sprawled in a chair in the mall's food court, picking unhappily at the sandwich on the table in front of him.

Across from him, surrounded by the packages she had acquired, Rose was cheerfully eating her own food. "So, that wasn't so bad, was it, Doctor?"

"Not bad?!" he exclaimed incredulously, dropping the bit of sandwich he was about to eat. "Being tortured by Daleks would have been a less painful way to spend a day!"

"Hey, you did promise to take me shopping. And anyway, you did some shopping yourself at that bookstore. Who is Anne McCaffrey anyway?"

"A brilliant fantasy writer from your own country," he snapped.

"What, you mean like the Harry Potter sort of fantasy? Or the Lord of the Rings sort? 'Cos I never really got into either."

"You never read The Lord of the Rings?! It's a classic!"

"Never really cared for seriously long books like that. Me and Shareen did go to the movies for Orlando Bloom though. That blond hair was just amazing."

He rolled his eyes and returned to his food.

"Excuse us but are these seats taken?" a voice suddenly asked.

The Doctor glanced around to see four teenage girls standing at the far edge of the table. "No, go ahead."

"Thanks!" the one who had asked replied, setting her tray down and brushing her ponytail back. She and another girl shrugged off their backpacks and removed a portable computer from each. "So, you have a usb drive, right? I left mine home today."

"Yeah, of course!" the other girl replied with a grin, handing over a small rectangular stick. "Go ahead and put those Torchwood articles on it."

"Yep, no problem!"

"Uh, Doctor?"

He blinked and glanced at his companion. "What?"

"You were staring. They're just some teenagers hanging out, not some aliens. Now can your hurry up and finish?"

"Yeah, of course."

"Good. Now I'm going to head to the loo and then we can be off. Back in a mo!"

He watched her go then turned his attention back to his food. He did keep an ear on the four girls though.

"So, what do you guys think of this fic idea: Nine and Rose come here and we're here too. Hm?" the first one asked.

"Sounds alright, but what about Ten? I bet he'd have a blast here too because of the candy store!" the second girl replied with a grin.

"I know!" the red-haired one exclaimed. "How about Four and Leela and K-9 too? I can definitely imagine him walking through here flinging his scarf around and offering everyone in sight a Jelly Baby."

The Doctor was beginning to get an unsettling feeling.

"How about Sarah Jane too," the other girl added, tossing her brown hair back.

"And Romana!"

"And Rickey the idiot!"

"And Captain Jack Harkness and the rest of Torchwood!"

"And Lynda with a 'y'!"

The four girls burst out laughing.

"Only if I add Daleks and Cybermen and Raxacoricofallapatorians too!" the first girl managed, wiping tears from her eyes.

By now, the Doctor was very worried. He glanced towards the restrooms and silently thanking Rassilon, saw Rose approaching. He clambered to his feet and began gathering up the various bags.

"Oi, careful with that!" Rose exclaimed, taking a box from him. "Wait, what's the matter?" she asked, noticing the anxious look on his face.

"I'll tell you later. Let's just get out of here. Now!"

"But, Doctor, we haven't seen everything yet!"

"We can come back some other time. We just need to leave right now," he said quietly, very much aware of the four girls watching curiously.

"Fine. Let's go then," Rose muttered as she picked up the last bag.

As they turned and walked back though the tables, the Doctor's superior hearing caught something that made him hurry Rose along even faster.

"Hey, do you guys think that they looked like Nine and Rose?"

As the TARDIS dematerialized loudly, four heads looked up from what they were doing and the owner grinned simultaneously.

"Now to get into Level 28 of Cheyenne Mountain and find Daniel," the redhead said cheerfully as the others nodded enthusiastically.
