Title: Jealousy
Author: janna_hawkins
Summary: "I said it doesn't look like you're actually listening to me...like always."
Characters: Hiccup, Astrid
Disclaimer: I own nothing related to HTTYD except the first five books, a Hiccup action figure and a Night Fury figure
Author Notes: This came from a comment chain on "How to Train Your Fangirl" on deviantART with Sweetbean882006. We were talking about how Jealous!Hiccup was so cute and that got me thinking up ideas about how to write more of him like that. So, this is the result of that. Please enjoy! :)

Hiccup was not amused. After so many years of pining after the most beautiful girl in the entire village, she finally liked him back. Unfortunately, she also liked something else and Hiccup suspected that she liked this thing better than she liked him. Well, actually there were two things: her favorite axe and her Nadder.

Anytime the two of them hung out, she always brought along those two things, no matter where they were going. Sure, she paid attention to him, answered his questions and laughed at his funny stories but for some reason it was as if she wasn't completely there. She was forever stroking the handle of her axe or watching her Nadder play with Toothless.

Finally, one day he'd had enough.

"Astrid."

"Hmm?" the girl replied, glancing at him briefly before continuing to sharpen her axe.

"Astrid!"

"I'm listening."

"Doesn't look like it," he muttered.

She looked up at him and frowned. "Sorry, what was that?"

"I said it doesn't look like you're actually listening to me...like always."

"What are you talking about? I listen to you, Hiccup."

"Yeah but you always have this...distant look when you do, like you're not really paying attention or something. It gets kind of annoying."

She raised her eyebrows and set her axe down on the ground. "Alright, now you've got my complete attention. What?"

"Well I just...I..." he sighed.”I really just wanted to tell you how I felt. You're always so distracted."

"You think so?"

Hiccup nodded. "You're forever messing with that axe of yours or watching the dragons when we're supposed to be spending time together."

"I do? Really?"

"You mean...you don't notice it?"

"No, Hiccup, I don't. I'm really just focusing on what you're talking about."

"Oh," he said quietly, feeling all his annoyance disappear.

Astrid smiled and gently shoved at him. " 'Oh' is right. Now, what were you saying?"

Hiccup never quite remembered what it was he had been talking about. And he didn't really care.
