my first thought when the power started going haywire in the gas station was that it was Dean causing it. My second thought was that the burnt out eyes reminded me of the episode of X-Files where the those orphan girls got their eyes burnt out because they "saw the angel of the lord." Then thinking back to my Old Testament class in college i remembered all of the verses of god's glory burning out the eyes of those that saw him and the same with his angels. The scorched hand print (was awesome) is another point from mythology. And the name, Castiel, uses the -el suffix that the archangels, Gabriel, Raphael, Michael, use.
