Fudge started on a whopping 8 lb pork shoulder roast today. It'll last about 8 days. She did quite well, and had fun eating it--afterwards she rolled around on the ground all happy. It was cute. :)

I saw a commercial today that reminded me of you!

It was for some Purina dog food and it was talking about how Purina dog food makes dogs happy because it has eeeverything dogs need like vegetables and grains.

And I wanted to throw things at the TV. :[

Haha, yeah. Whenever I see the Science Diet commercial on Animal Planet I feel the same way. The person's like "My dog's skin has been flaky and dry" and the vet's like "Dry skin can be a sign of poor nutrition" and then they show the "food pyramid" for dogs and cats--with "proteins and carbohydrates" as the bottom section. Too bad even the Merck Veterinary Manual says that carbs aren't necessary in dogs' and cats' diets. :P

so cute :)

Just out of curiousity, what do you and Mark eat? The same thing, but cooked?

We don't usually eat anything that requires much time to make (considering we get home at 8 PM or later and by then we don't really want to wait forever to eat). So we have pasta a lot, plus things like grilled cheese, fish sticks and fries, etc. When we have more time we eat meat (chicken, burgers), baked ziti, BBQ stuff, stir fry, etc. And we go out to eat a couple of times a week. Fudge's food is super easy to give since it's raw--all I have to do is defrost and serve. Sadly, it's not so easy for us humans. :)

This is going to sound like a stupid question, but it's really just out of interest ;)

Is it safe to keep the meet around and raw for 8 days while she's eating it? I mean, I realize you're not leaving it out on the floor for 8 days straight, but even still I feel like it would start to spoil, no?

It's fine for dogs to eat "ripe" meat. Their systems can handle the extra bacteria just fine. In fact, I know of some dogs that like to bury their food outside, and then dig it up days later and eat it. Many seem to prefer their meat smelly. :)
