I don't....I don't understand how you do this so consistently. It's AMAZING, and blows my mind. It made me late for work this morning ( ... )

I concentrated on my work eventually :-P It's so hard though....I'd much rather just read everyone's meta thoughts and flail.

Thanks for clarifying all that! I have really enjoyed all the references to the Lakes/Cumbria so far, for nostalgic reasons. I hadn't thought of it as a place of pilgrimage though - good thought.

And yes, I agree that I prefer the symbolism of the linden leaf to the maple - I just wish they'd used a linden leaf the first time too....(sometimes the part of my that is happy for things to be fully explained by meta goes to war with the part of me that likes actual plot continuity)

Rings a Bell - omg YES. GENIUS. And if Clara 'rings a bell' (of St John) and is mirrored (literally) to the god-in-a-box, then she is the Doctor's alarm clock and if she is a clock then she is a Lady Of Time.....

Werewolf! I love that game, even though I'm terrible at it.

The Little Girl trope begins with Charlotte at the Library. She's the Universal Savior -- "I have to save," she says, and she does so without judgment or reservation. She will save everyone. Which reminds me, more than anything, of the little girl savior at the end of Philip K Dick's VALIS.

*mumbles* I'm no better, it's embarrassing.

Ah! Thank you, very interesting indeed. Especially if Clara is associated with her...

Just v. quickly (will be back later, hopefully):

It begins with the Song, sung by the Queen of Years, who first implores The Warrior to rest, but not to leave.
The words are not 'don't leave' but ,'Live'.

Yeah, I had a really hard time discerning the lyrics between the warrior line and the "wake up" bits! I found some subtitles (*cough*) but they didn't cover those lines, underdubbed to the Doctor's talking ( ... )

Late comments are late!

Love the links to The Wedding and series 6...

Also, the shot of the Docotr with his head hanging down so hear appears headless as the monks (and, of course, he's been a monk!) is fab.

I'm so with you on what you read from this about the leaf embodying life/death/rebirth, that being the thing the Doctor can never do.

I also love the idea of the ring, the circle of life, the exchanging of rings.

How alchemical is this? She receives the token representing the principle she defeated, defeated by the story of singularity, of the unique death that opens up an infinity of possibilities, using a symbol that's been infused with Love. But this ring, it's an engagement ring. Used for Weddings. And it's silver.

Clara is The Woman Who Died Twice. And still she lives.

So who's the truly Eldritch God?
