I enjoyed the first two books in this trilogy, and I am quite looking forward to reading this final installment. Glad to hear that it sounds like it's worth reading.

Also, I can't help but be a little annoyed that the official description for this book is so misleading. I had no idea that Sieh was the central character until I skimmed some reviews. I assumed it was just this new character Shahar. I wonder why they did that?

Yeah, I had forgotten the blurb and then reread it when I finished and I was like: wow, that is so off. I think that Shahar was the protag in the first draft of this book (according to Jemisin's blog) and I wonder if they never really updated the blurb? There is one part of the book told from Shahar's POV but it was really small. Also, the relationship between Dekarta & Sieh - it's more than just friends (like the relationship Sieh has with Shahar), and I wonder if the thought was to not have readers judge the book because of this before they've read it?

I looked at the back blurb for this book, and it suggests that Shahar is the main character alongside Sieh. This is sort of misleading.

No kidding! What were they thinking?

Just finished this book last night. I think Jemisin as an author has shown a lot of growth... in the other two books, the endings were kind of... lost in translation? I knew the before and the after, but getting there was very difficult to visualize in my mind. I didn't have that trouble here, so that's an improvement. :)

What was the lingering question you had after The Broken Kingdoms?

Yeah, I have been mulling it over and it's between: they didn't update the blurb (book was originally from Shahar's POV?) or.. they didn't want the Deka/Sieh relationship to be underlined? But yeah, it's very weird, and Orbit tends to have good blurbs (at least, I think so), so this was unusual.

Ug, so annoyed that LJ is suddenly not taking html that I swear it used to. Sorry, you're getting multiple edits from me.

Oh, that's so interesting, I found this ending less satisfying than the earlier ones, so I had a different reaction. Although - not dissatisfied by the way it ended, more dissatisfied by how the ending was related to the reader. It felt sort of choppy - (highlight for spoilers:) sudden POV change (last chapter was Shahar, then we're back to Sieh in the Coda, I think?), sudden change in time: 60ish years later, here's a summary of what really happened in the end.

The lingering question I had was if Itempas ever came back to Oree after he was made to leave her by the other Two.(end ( ... )

For whatever reason, the POV change didn't bother me. I guess given how the previous chapter ended, I was expecting it. Now the Coda, that makes sense. But that was a wee bit more jarring (though I'll admit, I happened to glance at the end before finishing and therefore knew whose POV we'd be in). :)

And no worries about multiple edits. LJ's definitely getting finicky about HTML.

Did your ARC have the after-short story about Itempas? The ebook did.

Snarp on Dreamwidth said that she would have liked to have one Sieh Book AND one book about the adventures of Ashad and Glee - and I have to agree. It may have been the longest book, but it should have been two, to do full justice.

My review on GoodReads.

Hah, I obviously didn't read close enough. It did.

Yup! My copy was a finished one, not an ARC. I was very happy to read the short story. Oh my goodness, one book on Sieh and one book on Ashad & Glee... that is genius. Now I wish that was how it went down. It did feel like there wasn't enough space to get into everything in just one book, even if it was pretty long.

Yes, Snarp is like that, occasionally - she makes these intuitive leaps.
