The academic bits are very accessible. I'd recommend borrowing this book and reading the first 50-60 pages to tell if it's for you. It's hard for me to say if someone will like this because I think it depends on how you react to the writing style.

I am glad considering I just slapped in a pre-order for the book.

I was hooked by the author's own academic credentials and non-fiction on Dr. Dee. It gave me assurance that she'd handle the historical aspects.

It's set in modern times but there are A LOT of history references, and book 2 promises to be even more so from where I see the plot going. The history is great, the super detail-laden writing style is what may make or break the book for people. I liked it though. I would read book 2. But this is a hard one for me to tell if people will like it or not.

Yes, this cover is a little on the serious side. I'm not sure it's hitting the right note for its audience. It's very pretty in person though.
