There are simple traditions I follow like making cookies for Santa (even though my son is 21 now) and a big Christmas breakfast. Christmas Eve with my husband's family, Christmas day with mine.
But one that hold through always is my Nutcraker collection. I counted them last year, but I've forgottne what the number is...almost 100 I think. Most people know about it, so every year a get a few new ones. I have my old favorites though...the handmade one my cousin made, my little fat Santa that I bought while I waited for my son's cub scout pack to finish bowling lessons, my Firefighter that I bought after 9/11, my frog prince...and some others that I look forward to unwrapping every year.
I love the book idea. I have a collection of books that I lug to school every year to share with the kids.
Your Nutcracker collection sounds wonderful! We have moved around so much that we don't really have specific places where we like to spend the holidays, but since we don't plan to move again anytime soon, maybe this will be the year to begin some new traditions!
The books have been a big hit -- even though my little girl is in elementary school now, she still likes the pre-school Christmas books in the collection because she has happy memories of them from other Christmases. :)
