Morgan and I are safe and sound in New Zealand. While I caught up on sleep I didn't get on the plane, she went swimming with fruitbat_mum. I think she wouldn't ever leave the pool if she could get away with it.

I was very pleasantly surprised to find allova waiting at the airport with Alan. Yay, friends! She and Morgan played with Morgan's reindeer ( Read more... )

1: I'm glad you got there safely! Huzzah!
2: I'm VERY happy you enjoyed the Messiah ... I actually sang in the ecumenical performance of it here in my town yesterday... we did two performances, and unfortunately left several of the choruses out. The choir's filled with old ladies, so I guess it's because you can only belt out so much ...
3: I got stuck at the alto table (yes, STUCK) last night, my work buddy and I ... and when they realized we were sopranos, they literally wrote "Altos only" on the paper tablecloth. My thoughts of elitist sopranos were completely thrown out the window at that. I had always thought that sopranos were in general cliqueish and snobby. Au contraire!

Heh, that may be a chicken-or-egg thing. Altos wouldn't be so bitter and cliqueish if they weren't constantly being passed over for sopranos. It seems like any singer who's worth anything (especially for solos) has to be a soprano.

True or not, that's an alto perspective.

The part I almost died of cute was when Morgan adopted me as her cousin, remember that bit?

Hee, yep. When I told her we were going to see you today, I said, "Remember Anna? My friend with brown hair?" and she lit up and was all, "My cousin?!!"

I'm good with having Morgan as my cousin, I haven't seen my actual cousins in like eight years (they live in Hungary, all three of them)

Does this make you my auntie? :P

Morgan's father's niece was seven when we first got together and she also wanted to adopt me as a cousin. I don't remember doing that when I was a kid, but it seems to be a common thing....

Glad you made it okay.

Altos do tend to get stuck with boring filler lines, don't they? It's a pity, because I love a warm mellow alto (frustrated mezzo sop, anyone?).

Do you know Faure's Requiem? One of the pieces has the altos and tenors twining around each other singing about the jaws of the lion and the infernal pit and it's so creepy and so beautiful that my hair literally stands on end.
