This series is an old favorite of mine. I definitely second the rec. But don't worry about the last fic - honestly, I don't know why it's labeled as WIP, because I feel it ends in a perfectly good spot, and it does tie up the series nicely. It delves into Jayne's family, and how hard it is to go home again, even if it's just for a visit.

I agree with the first comment- it may not 'end' as a lot of fics do, with a very final feeling and every loose end tied up and all, but it feels like a good place to end. Some series go on too long and kill my interest in them by going past their expiration date, but the last chapter has an air of resolution while putting in motion events that we can imagine will develop happily off-screen. If that makes sense.

Like, all the stuff with River and Jayne is very satisfactorily dealt with, and there's this air of 'life changes and moves forward and people's relationships evolve and it's a neverending cycle' and it doesn't leave me hanging. Of course I'd love more if Dyce ever went back, but it really ends on a good note. I'd encourage you to read it, really is fabulous.

I know! There's a huge following for the pairing, but there just isn't that much long fic (and the longest story in the fandom is one that I just couldn't get through). *sigh*

Bleurgh, hate it when that happens. I've looked at other fics and just can't get into them. Most really screw up River's characterization, or just make Jayne's behavior toward her unbelievable.

The vast majority of the fics I've read have also made River very submissive and Jayne her big protector, which makes me want to hurl. River could beat Jayne to a bloody pulp with one hand tied behind her back, *which is awesome* and I can't understand why people ignore that fact.

Just had to let you know how great this rec was. I've watched Firefly but it was one of the few series I never went looking for fanfic in as the few I had stumbled across was, well, bad. This redeems my faith in fanfic. It was wonderful .. and so much so as if canon I had to rewatch a few episodes to see what was Whelon's and which was Dyce'. She does it so much better.
