Goddammit, Penny Arcade. This shit is really disappointing and hurtful.

What follows is my reaction to Penny Arcade's two most recent comics, and the associated news posts. I'm not linking to the comics themselves. Trigger warning for discussion of rape and sexual assault.

I have no interest in going over to PA to find the original strip and their straw man reaction, but...yeah. I'm not even a loyal fan and reading this just, it's so just. It's so disappointing of Gabe and Tycho.

GOD, YES. Especially when it's people you expected better from. That makes it 100x more disappointing and upsetting, because you were all, "But I thought you got it, kind of!"

Only it turns out that no, they didn't actually get it at all. Blergh.

EXACTLY. At this point in my life, one transgression of this calibre is often enough for me to rip that page out of my fanbook and burn it and NEVER SPEAK OF IT AGAIN.

(because god, I can't imagine trying to debate THIS topic with some of my gamer dude friends. LOL now I'm kinda glad I'm being a social recluse this weekend! XD)

Pretty much! This is the entire reason I won't read Elizabeth Bear anymore. And every time I consider reading her stuff again, my f-list informs me that NO, SERIOUSLY, I REALLY SHOULDN'T. I'm still holding out the faint hope that Gabe and Tycho will get their heads out of their asses and actually learn something from this whole thing, but...I'm not counting on it. :P

I hear that Jyllands-Posten Muhammad cartoons got a bunch of crazy people to prove their insanity too. You, are infact, no different. Get upset about something worth getting upset about. They reacted to this no differently than they have anything else, they made a humorous comic, this is in no way surprising. Try reading the first comic in context again, are you more fine with slaves being beaten every morning or a WOLF made of DICKS raping them to sleep every night...

This is coming from someone who was a 5 yearold was infact raped by a dog, so yeah, you really don't need to be my martyr, I found it funny as an off the cuff not at all centrical to the comic joke. They just wanted to use the combination of Dick and Wolves... thats no crime.

Geez. I wasn't aware of it, but... urrgh. (I actually don't find PA that awesome, to be honest. Just a personal taste thing, I guess.)

That is yet another trope that fills me with rage. SO MUCH RAGE.

It's hard being a nerd sometimes. There are times when it's amazing and wonderful and welcoming, and it's exciting because you're all weird outcasts together...and then you run into that wall where if you're not a white straight cis able-bodied dude, they don't want you playing anymore. *sigh* I've been lucky in that I don't run into it much in RL, but online? Ugh. It just makes me want to HIDE sometimes.

Penny Arcade is a comic I stopped reading a long time ago, mainly because I figured out these kinds of things would keep happening. Not really surprised by the internet reaction at this point.
