Caroline grabbed the long strand of hair and held it tight in her fist: the hair felt coarse and unlike her own. By the same token, the man in front of her looked unlike her dad. Brilliant! Suspiciously close to certain elements of my life. Also reminds me of The Time Travellers Wife a bit.
Two words: more moustaches!

Proud of you, sir! This is well-crafted.

I can only hope you don't continue this story. The speculation that it illicits in the reader's mind is probably more satisfying than any payoff that could follow.

In fact, I'm feeling a whole new genre of prose--brief, poetic glimpses. Page turners, except there is no page to turn to. Can you imagine a book full of unrelated shorts like this? Let's write one!!
