I can only hope you don't continue this story. The speculation that it illicits in the reader's mind is probably more satisfying than any payoff that could follow.
In fact, I'm feeling a whole new genre of prose--brief, poetic glimpses. Page turners, except there is no page to turn to. Can you imagine a book full of unrelated shorts like this? Let's write one!!
