Author's Note: Written for the
hp_nextgen_fest Halloween Drabble Fest. My prompt was Jealousy, but it really has nothing to do with Halloween. I've written this pairing, but I've never posted this pairing before, so I hope it's okay. Any mistakes in this are my own. I hope you enjoy it :)
It was suffocating, the feeling of her entire family surrounding her. Everyone was laughing, having fun, except for her. She couldn’t move, her legs hardly holding her up. Her hand gripped the mantle of the fireplace she was using to stay standing, her knuckles turning white against the pressure.
She put on a brave face, mustering up her best smile when someone approached her, asking about work and nonsensical things she hardly cared about.
The only thing she could care about was him, and the way his hair was rumpled in the most perfect way, and how his shirt was just a bit too tight across his broad chest.
She wished things could be different, that he’d come over to her, whisper things into her ear. She could picture it, his hand resting low on her back, the heat of his palm burning her skin through the silk dress Rose suggested she wear.
Jealousy consumed her when she saw him whisper in her ear, his arm around her waist, holding her close. She lost her breath when Victoire leaned up to kiss him. It was intimate, something she shouldn’t have seen but that she couldn’t take her eyes off of.
They pulled apart, Victoire leaving the room with a lingering look back at Teddy. Lily watched as his eyes followed her as she walked away.
But everything changed when he turned his head towards her, his eyes staring her down. She couldn’t pull herself away. He took a sip of his drink, watching her over the rim of his glass. Her pulse was racing, her palms sweating. They stayed like that for minutes, or hours- she couldn’t be sure.
Nothing would happen, and she knew that, but she knew that look meant something.
Someday, she thought, I’ll find out what.
