in lieu of actually complaining

If I complained of someone suffering from Mensa syndrome, would you know what I'm talking about? Is it common usage?

Edit: The definition according to google is a bit more concerned with the effect on person suffering from it, and less with the external symptoms which I apparently find so agitating.

can't take me anywhere, whinging

I could make a guess, but it would be decades old: Bunch of nerds complaining that they're underachievers.

I think that's closer to the "official" definition? But I'm specifically looking for a term to describe the tendency of some nerds to lace their conversations with references to past demonstrations of their nerdly prowress (eg. Mensa membership, IQ, SAT scores, chess victories).

Though I assume both behaviors are driven by the same underlying insecurity.

Last time I took an IQ test I scored 104. I must clearly be an unrecognised genius.

Not really: I'd probably make some kind of Asperger's connection and assume you were talking about someone with poor social skills.

mensa was good for me when i needed the reassurance that i was smart, but it lost its appeal when i realized that being smart was really not any sort of advantage in itself.

I'd assume you were talking about people with no particular achievements or education, but joined mensa (or just took the test) and feel the need to tell you about it so you know they R SMRT.
