Thank you for this intro post. It has been recommended that I add this journal as a friend to read for my OU history course starting next month. I look forward to reading the entries.

Thank you for a very informative introductory post. Looking forward with keen anicipation to the installments.

I am one of those [I suspect one of a multitude ;-)] who were pointed to this with reference to its relation to Doyle's Dr. Watson's medical career. I'm researching the history and life of 19th-century surgeons (WRT Watson) at the moment, so this primary source is the equivalent of gold dust for me.

Thank you very much indeed for taking this project on! :-D

Oh, gosh - I hadn't even thought of Dr. Watson, but I can definitely see the relevance! West even has to treat a gun-shot wound at one point in the diary, although, alas, foul play is not suspected. ;-)

Anyway, I hope you'll find it helpful for your research, and I'm glad to hear the word's been spreading.

Sorry to be a me too, but that's the reason why I'm here also. For a writer, accurate historical info is always valuable (even if it's just for fanfic, lol.) Anyway, thanks for taking this on! I'm looking forward to peeking in on the life of Dr. West.
