I really like this short film, which I have as an extra on the DVD of Something to Sing About. I think this is the only film I've seen where Jimmy plays a dad - can anyone think of any others? Aware that I've very possibly missed something obvious!

Well, "These Wilder Years" is all about his search for a son he never knew, of course. And he has a couple of troublesome brats in "One, Two, Three", although they aren't seen much because he favors his secretary over his family. *wince*

(Personally, I find the former movie boring, and the latter highly disagreeable. The closest thing to parenthood that I actually like in a Cagney movie is his reaction at the end of "The Strawberry Blonde". I do enjoy Jimmy in "You, John Jones"--I'd have loved to see him make a full-length film with Ann Sothern!--but that little girl gives me all kinds of creeps.)

Ah yes, 'One, Two, Three' - I should've thought of that! It's a movie I don't like much either, though Cagney is amazing in all those long fast speeches.

Haven't seen 'The Wilder Years'. I agree with you that the reaction at the end of 'Strawberry Blonde' is lovely - but then it is a lovely film in general.:)
