This was beautiful. I love the way you described Romano's passion and the way he just had to create, and I think the part where he destroyed it at the end was the perfect touch. Also, I can't say exactly why I loved Spain's part so much but it somehow added a huge epicness.
I'm going to try to avoid throwing around words like "evocative", "raw", "passionate", "mesmerizing". Because words like that don't quite capture the sheer amount of feeling in this piece. Your personal care for the subject shows quite clearly here, and only enhances the forceful nature of the story. Reading this was a little bit like being rushed down a dark tunnel so fast that you can hardly breathe, and at the end the light is so bright you try to shut your eyes and still can't help being blinded by it. More than a little, in fact. And I can only say that this one reader, at least, is more glad to see you writing, for what it's worth. Because I can't imagine it being quite the same had you remained an artist. ^^
