As a pianist though, and as someone who knows a LOT of pianists...

Pianists work really hard at what they do. They like to show off for the most part. Playing easy chords required in most pop-songs does NOT denote virtuosic talent at all, but in my head-canon, Blaine kind of likes showing off with a couple of Classical pieces he knows really, really well (my guess is that he took lessons for a few years), but he doesn't really have an interest in pursuing the kind of virtuosity that Classical music calls for. He likes being around people too much to want to put in the hours practicing requires.
