What does the bible really have to say about the rapture? Is it even biblical? I'm confused.

Krista (my wife) was sitting behind me telling me over and over "No, the rapture is not in the bible." And she's right, the word rapture is not in the bible. Just like the term "Trinity" is not in the bible. These are terms used to describe certain ideas presented in the bible. Some trivia: the word "rapture" is from the Latin rapio meaning "seize, snatch, carry away".

The rapture is an event described in a new testament book (later half of the bible) called I Thessalonians. It is in the fourth chapter:
"...we do not want you to be uninformed, brethren, about those who are asleep [that is, those who have died], so that you will not grieve as do the rest who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus. For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the ( ... )
