Witness the entitled otaku in its natural habitat

I know anime fans can get seriously butthurt with their entitlement complexes when it comes to fansubs, but the comment thread for this article seems to be an even stronger example than usual. Kind of fascinating, really. Who knew that the ability to watch Soul Eater at one's convenience was a human right.

anime, oh fandom, fandom

I don't know, I understand the frustration with how incredibly slow American companies are to release titles. It obviously doesn't take that long to put together a fansub, and they can't have NOT KNOWN Eva, for instance, was going to be a popular title. How much of a mover and shaker do you really have to be to co-ordinate with your Japanese producers to have an American sub out at the same time?

The really feel like a lot of the American release industry is a protectionist racket that is stuck doing things the old way because no one has put forth a better business plan.

The frustration I understand-it sucks when you're watching something you like and then you can't anymore. So I don't think it's automatically to express unhappiness when you can't. But if you read the entire thread (which I don't blame you if you don't, it's long) there is some serious, serious entitlement going on there. A lot of fans honestly don't seem to get that watching anime at their convenience is not a human right.

I don't have any insider info on this, but from tidbits I've heard, I'd blame Gainax for the Eva delay. At least one company guy has said that they wanted a fuckton of money for the new movie, and that's probably a really tough call in the current state of the industry.

Oh yeah. I was reading that yesterday. Nevermind the fact that, in the past, almost everything that Funi has acted on behalf of the studios for generally was licensed by them within six months to a year. I'm fully expecting them to have another "guess the new license" event sometime in the next few months.

And, hey, if anyone can afford Eva right now, it would be Funimation.

So wait, Funi doesn't have the rights but they're issuing C & Ds?

Or did I read that wrong. I AM CONFUSED.
