Can you smell the Desperation?

Jan 16, 2009 20:45

So I was reading a website that has a run down of all the soaps, looking for anything on my Spixie. The site is mostly spoilers and rumors. Well I looked over the ones for Guiding Light because it had the word cancellation next to it. This is the first set of spoilers I've read in a month and shook my head when I did. Olivia and Natalia are going ( Read more... )

I read somewhere that GL was as good as canceled, but that ATWT would get to stay on. That made me both sad and happy. Sad because a part of me thinks it's awful that a show that has been on forever is getting canceled because one woman single-handedly killed it and happy because at least ATWT gets to stay on.

I have to say the Natalia and Olivia pairing could have been good, but I think it's a bit too little, too late at this point. Now it just seems like desperation.

ATWT isn't doing well in the ratings either, but their stories don't suck. Characters are written well and they do listen to the fans...GL hasn't done any of those things in years. I'm happy that ATWT will stay around. They deserve to, just as GL deserves to die, thanks to EW. She really is the devil. 70+ years of history... *sigh*

The Natalia/Olivia relationship is a desperate move and it is coming across as such. As I told my mom, they are throwing mud against the wall in the hope something sticks. That isn't the way to write a show. *sigh*

ITA! My husband says he wished they would just let ATWT stay on for 2 hours. Actually I think it's getting better, at least most days, while GL is getting more and more pathetic. I cannot believe no one who mattered cared enough to fix the show before EW ruined it. It's really, really sad.--BettyB

ATWT is getting better. I enjoy almost all the stories and most of the characters. I haven't said that about GL in over five years. Coop and Ashlee, Buzz and Doris were the only characters I could stomach and now... well you watch the show, you understand. I'm given up on the whole program. I can't believe no one stepped in either. She (along with the writers from hell) should have been fired two years ago. *sigh*

I've thought the show was dead in the water for months now. The rumor last spring was that come Fall 2009 GL's timeslot would be filled with a talk show. Even if they couldn't or wouldn't save the show, it was no excuse to blow it to hell. Most of you are too young to remember, but I used to watch the soap TEXAS. It was spin-off of Another World. It was an amazing soap. Great actors, awesome characters and storylines. It's only downfall was that it was in the 3 p.m. timeslot up against then powerhouse GL & GH. It was a new soap and had a hard time taking off in the ratings against the two big ones. I think it was only on for maybe 2 or 3 years. At any rate, when they knew the soap was not going to make it, they acted with class and tied up storylines and "finished" the show off in style. GL could have done that too. The past months could have been put to great use and they could have given the fans something in appreciation of their years of devotion. But for some stupid reason they are content with just obliterating ( ... )

I don't remember Texas, but I do remember Another World (loved Vicky/Jake, Josie/Gary, among others) and I recall how they went out. The writers of that show also tied up loose ends and made the fans happy. Which is something GL hasn't done in over a year. *sigh* Heck even, Sunset Beach (which lasted four years) and Passions (which lasted nine) let the fans have a happy ending. All the fans were given the payoff that they were waiting for. For example: Meg and Ben on Sunset Beach got married and on Passions all the secrets were revealed. I don't believe that we will get that with GL when it finally does die. The IIC just don't care and I don't believe them when they say they do. If they did they wouldn't try and force crap on the audience...and yes I am referring to Cooth as well as other craptastic stories. *growls* I'm sorry so many people are going to lose their jobs, especially in this day and time, but I'll almost be relieved when the end comes. It's been heading this way for so long. *double sigh*
