This ever-present desire to become a drifter and see other parts of the country & world got a dose of perspective handed to it when I saw Legends of the Fall on Thursday night.

I'd recommend trying to "drift" in New York City. If you can survive there, you can survive anywhere.

Not that I'm encouraging you. That's just what I'd do first if it were me.

Maybe I'll try L.A. or San Francisco and work my way there. New York's a great city, but it's so far from here. Besides, that's the city with the biggest reputation, and how much fun is D&D when you slay the Big Bad right off the bat?

It occurs to me I have everything I need in my backpack right now. I wonder if I could.

Oooooooooooooh! We were talking about books - one you might like is Bury Me Standing by Isabela Fonseca. It's about the Romany and a girl who learns to read & write. The first part is a little dry, and it's a little out of sequence, but it's very very cool.
