The industrialization of near Earth space is the only thing that can realistically replace the arms industry. And Goddess Knows we need to get heavy industry of all types off world.

And this would not be done in the name of militarization why?

Project for a New American Century has already pointed out that their aim is to have the capability to deny use of near-earth orbit to anyone they deem a risk to US interests, haven't they?

There will be militarization wherever you go. Hell, the Chinese have already been shooting down satellites for fun. But the prime drive is to get heavy industry of all types off world.
