This is gorgeous. :)

I love Cas letting Dean see his wings, even though it made him tired, even though he should have saved his energy... and it's the subtle little things that get me, too, like this part:

Cas’s lips twitched as if he were trying to smile but couldn’t quite remember how. “I would say the same, but I find the absence of your prayer a welcome change under these circumstances.”

“Jeez, Cas. Sorry I bothered you.”

Dean just can't quite comprehend how Cas sees him, can he? He feels so worthless, as you mentioned near the end of the story - he can't fathom that he's worthy of Cas pulling him out of hell - and he can't fathom that Cas means to say (if I'm interpreting it correctly) that he's glad Dean is safe, he's glad Dean is with him. That's the reason Dean's not praying these days, and therefore he's glad Dean's not praying. Did I read that correctly? :P ( ... )

Glad you like it so much! :) Always very happy to hear it was in character.

And, yes, yes, you did read that right. I keep imagining how it must have been for Cas to hear Dean praying to him every night, knowing that he couldn't answer, mustn't answer, because it would have put Dean in danger - and at the same time, how much of a relief it must have been to know that Dean, despite being alone, was still alive. Now, they are in the same place, and Cas knows Dean is alright without the prayers, and it's a weight off his shoulders not to have to ignore him anymore. Of course he still worries that he will draw the Leviathan to Dean...

But, yeah, Dean doesn't get that Cas is essentialy saying: You're not praying because we're not separated anymore and I like that.
