Oh, this is adorable! And it's just the kind of thing that could happen to Sherlock, and exactly the way the conversation between S and J would go afterward. The scene at 221b, especially, feels like it could just be dropped right into an episode.

The image of Sherlock lying on the sofa with the compress on his face and his arms crossed makes me smile. I can just imagine Sherlock being annoyed and sulking and trying to retain some dignity with that pose. :D

And it's perfect that Sherlock knows John is feeling guilty and tells him so, even as John's trying to convince himself and Sherlock that he's not feeling guilty. Can't get away with denial when Sherlock's around... :)

This really is great, and wonderfully in character. Yes, of COURSE John feels guilty, and he did even BEFORE Mycroft said that he should have been looking after Sherlock, because

I had presumed that this was precisely the reason why you had become my brother's flatmate and colleague.”

...which cracks me up, either despite or because it's absolutely true and they all know it.

John feels guilty, and while he'd never admit it, I think Sherlock feels just a LITTLE bit like an idiot...

I figured that was precisely a situation where John would have apologised on behalf of Sherlock, had he been there - I don't know how often he does that in the series! :) Only - this time he wasn't. So, yeah, I agree with you.

Okay, that and I think you captured the two of them really well. :-) (Including Sherlock's vanity about the swollen nose. That was a nice touch. :-P)
