So, my weird reaction to this fic was suddenly to realize...it's only we fanfictioners who do use Watson as leverage.

Perhaps that one line wasn't enough?

Anyway, I enjoyed the one-shot...and it has sent me down another BBC vs. ACD headcanon musing...

Ah, well, perhaps... ;) On the other hand, Watson was shot once, and we have no idea what Moran would have had in store for him if Holmes had told him that he was still alive... And there is the one case of the steamship Friesland, which Watson never told us, which apparently almost cost both of them their lives...
But then again, perhaps Holmes just watched too closely over his Boswell to let anything happen to him. If that was the case, I can understand even better why he was so horrified in 3GAR...

Glad you enjoyed it! :D Would be interested in the details of your musings, though - BBC vs ACD is always interesting. ;)

Well, it mainly highlighted for me the fact that John has been captured TWICE already, which seems to fit into the BBC show's interest in Sherlock and John's relationship, because it is concerned with Sherlock's status as a good or bad person, which is something I don't see ACD as really caring about at all... If you are interested, my most extended published-on-the-internet ramble on the subject is this: http://goldvermilion87.livejournal.com/5848.html
But I primarily discuss the difference by writing Sherlock fanfic (even the cracky stuff sometimes. hehe)...because fanfiction is, in my opinion, criticism lite. :-D

You are right, of course! ACD never raises the question, but I have no doubt that in the background, it is there, or else the BBC would not have come up with making it an issue... I have read your musings, and commented at lenght to them - let's see what you say to my views! ;)

But yes, we fanfic writers tend to show what is written between the lines more openly. After all, what is fanfiction about other than placing our characters in situations that show parts of their character only hinted at in canon! And, after all, any of those adaptations, including BBC!Sherlock, are just another form of fanfic.

Oh cleverly done! His Boswell would have been proud of that! :)

High praise indeed - thank you! :D I am glad you liked it!

It was surprisingly easy to write, flowing quite naturally...
