New Edwardian Patterns.... Critique, please!

Friends! I just heard on Steam Ingenious that Butterick has just released two new Edwardian patterns. One of them reminds me of Jen's Hooverette dress (even though it's quite a bit earlier, hah!), the other is a suit.

What do y'all think about them?

I can't comment as to their historical accuracy since Edwardian is still a relatively new era for me, but I can say I like the way they look! I'll be hitting up JoAnn's on Thursday because Butterick patterns will be $1.99. These will be mine!

I am totally with ya. JoAnn's on Thursday! WOO!

Edwardian is relatively new for me, too, and I have to admit my interest is.... only vaguely for historical accuracy? I think because I see a huge potential for *actually* wearing Edwardian as normal clothes. Especially the teens. I mean, it's kind of close enough that people would just think I was quirky (which, they probably already do, so may as well live up to it). Oddly, I think I'm starting to love the look of the teens over the bustle era, which I didn't think I'd ever do. With my time constraints, I need to pick and choose my eras, and the multi-use possibility of the teens is very appealing.

So I'm fine if they're "historical-ish," ultimately, but I am curious to hear whether or not they're a close interpretation...

Wah! They did not have them at my JoAnn's! Guess I will have to grab them the next sale.

They didn't have them at my JoAnn's either! They must not have rolled out the new product yet. How disappointing. :(

Hi! I asked fancyfrocks, who knows a HUGE amount about this period. These patterns are incredibly good! Here's the specific low-down ( ... )

This is good info! I know enough to know things aren't quite right but not enough to know exactly what to change.

Oh, great! Tell your friend fancyfrocks THANKS from me. I am with Christy - I knew the patterns had to be off, but the over all look was so good to my eye that I knew I was going to end up buying the pattern anyway. It's too hard to pass up a $2 pattern, hah!

I have a pattern for a 'teens blouse already, so yay. One of those simple, high necked blouses.

I was really excited when I saw someone post about these patterns earlier on FaceBook. They look pretty darned good for a Big 3 pattern, and I'm definitely going to pick them up for myself! That's saying something, since I've come to shun store-bought patterns. lol

I just don't have the time to teach myself how to draft patterns, nor the tools. ;) So I'm tied to patterns, and those JoAnn's sales are fun sometimes. Heh. I do love watching your progress, though!

I like them too! There are some nitpicky things about the way they are made up that look more modern to me, but they have really great bones. I especially like the suit. Put a high-necked blouse under it and tweak the collar a little and it would be rockin!

Excellent! "Great bones" is good enough for me! Plus with the tips from fancyfrocks, I can tweak things a bit. I won't be out of place for any Edwardian events we do/go to. ^_~ I love the top one, since it's always so hot here. It'd be nice to have at least one winter-ish and one hot weather dress.
