The book is The Sealed Letter by Emma Donoghue, and is based on a real-life scandal -- the Codrington divorce. One of the named parties in the divorce was Emily Faithfull, a big-time suffragist, though in the novel much of the suffragist work is background.
And I always love stories about people working together in little tight-knit bands for some common cause (of course I do, I'm in bandom) but with slightly different visions of what that cause is, and even more different visions of how to get it, where those visions sometimes click into place so nicely with each other and sometimes jar the other one out of place.
I would like to, in a way, but I also feel like I know so little about them that it would really be just thinly disguised original fic. I mean, I know there are ways to remedy this problem, but I don't know if I'll get around to pursuing them.
