Heading to work for my Dad for the next few days. It's kinda nice to go back to my hometown and work for a few days - seeing family and possibly friends, and Dad pays me pretty well. The downside is that I'm pretty much the only one in my family that isn't a hardcore right wing conservative super-christian. So I expect that all I will hear the ( Read more... )

Barack didn't destroy the country. Just like Hitler didn't destroy the country. WHoever was before Hitler managed to fuck it up right well and good, so it was in ruins when Hitler took it, and the people were thankful... at first.

Barack is just the guy before the next Hitler. He hasn't destroyed it, but he's going to frell it up so badly that we'll welcome the next Hitler, thinking ANYONE must be better than Obama. I neither republican nor democrat. I know both sides are BS. I'm anti-current american gov't. I was against Bush, too - both of 'em. I'm against Obama for the same reasons. He ain't Hitler, but he is going to open the way for the next Hitler.

I hear this kind of thing all the time about how horribly Obama has screwed the country. But not once has anyone said one specific thing that he's personally done that's so awful. And just saying that the deficit is worse now doesn't mean a thing unless it can be proven that his specific actions made it worse and also that it is provable that those actions won't help it come back over time.

I see your point, and I understand your perspective. I'm drawing from my knowledge of history and my knowledge of anthropology in looking at how systems and societies rise and fall, and Obama wasn't the start, nor will he be the finish. If you step back from the politics and nationalities and such, and look at it as a system, a society as a whole, then you cannot help but put it next to the great Rome in its decline and not see the exact same thing. Western society as an entity is falling, and when its all said and done, people in the future will look back at people like Bush and Obama and go 'w.t.f. were they thinking?'

mmf. Maybe it's possible to steer the conversation to other topics. After all, aren't religion and politics topics to be avoided in polite conversation?
