I believe in total, absolute openness and honesty in relationships.  I wish this could be applied more broadly, but societal conventions label very direct communication as "rude".  Instead, we're expected to dance around every interaction, watching for subtle cues that may mean very different things to the different people involved, and guessing at ( Read more... )

I know I've often wished that I could ask people things openly, without fear of breaking some sort of societal "We don't talk about that" code or of making things "weird" as a result.

At the same time? I acknowledge that there are certain things, certain details of people's lives, that I'm generally happier not knowing. So, I'm not sure what to think. Might be interesting to try sometime.

I'm liking this on a quick read level. I'm one foot out the door to be able to comment any deeper now, but I do like conversation where people can simply speak honestly without the dancing around. I will check the comic tonight and see more about the topic.

The social dynamics of a Sincerist group are inherently very challenging. I think one-on-one conversations resolve this, and people can simply choose not to have discussions with another member if they're not happy with how that person is acting. (They should tell them the problem, and then close communication when the person doesn't improve.)

Huh, what an interesting thing to read in the morning. Particularly relevant after being subjected to bludgeoning "honesty" as was seen through the eyes of a virtual stranger (albeit one I see frequently) earlier this week ( ... )
