Title: Arguments
Characters: Ten, James (OC)
Summary:  Ten and James argue, big time.
Rating: PG 13
A/N: Part of the 'Teenage James' series. I will write the scene that they refer to in here very soon. I have the outline already planned for it.
Warning: James is a bit mean in this one. :D

"Of all the stupid things to do, James!" the Doctor yelled at James, who stood in front of him in the empty Muggle Studies classroom. On one wall they was a banner with the outline of the wiring of a plug on it and on one of the others, they was a large poster, detailing how to use a telephone.

"I don't regret it for a moment!" James yelled back. "Would you rather she died?"

"No! That's not what I meant."

"Funny, that's what it sounded like to me," James growled back, hitting his hand on the table in front of him.

"You're acting like a child."

"Well, ain't that strange! I'm a fucking teenager again! I'm allowed to be stroppy."

"What I was trying to tell you was that you might have compromised the time line by your life saving technique."

"Well, excuse me for saving Martha's life."

"That's... you've probably extended her lifespan longer than the normal human's now. Not that I'd expect you to understand the consequences of your actions."

"Oh, so now we're down to the root of the problem. You've gotten used to your companions living only a normal lifespan and when someone as long-living as Jack or myself, and now Martha comes along, you can't do your tortured act," James snarled. Under the anger there was a tinge of hurt in his voice. "I bet if it was your 'precious Rose' you wouldn't have this complaint."

"Don't bring her into it."

"Why not? You do."

"It's not that. Look, James, I didn't want her to die as much as you do, but the Reapers... If they had come, the world as we know it shall cease to exist."

"We're all still here, TARDIS is still purring away, so I didn't cause a paradox after all. I knew that if I did let her die, then that'd be the paradox."

The Doctor muttered something which, judging by the wounded expression that crossed James' face, he had heard it just fine. The Doctor instantly regretted saying it as soon as the words left his mouth as he spotted the look on the other man's face.

"Fine," James said, the coldness in his voice seeming to drop the temperature of the room a few degrees. "If that's the way you feel then..." He reached into his shirt where he had the TARDIS key stored on a length of string around his neck, pulled it over his head and slammed the key on the table. "As soon as I'm back to normal and this term is over, take me home."

"If that's what you want, then, far be it for me to keep you against your will," the Doctor answered, sounding slightly hurt.

"Glad we have an understanding," James said, moving to the door and flinging the heavy wooden door open. He marched out, with a stormy expression on his face. He turned, unable to resist a parting shot. "Just for the record, I actually know how to act around royalty," he said, with a quirked eyebrow, before slamming the door in the Doctor's face and stomping off.

The Doctor watched him go before slumping against the desk. He knew he had hurt the younger man and he wasn't sure on how to fix it before they drifted apart.
