The Doctor opened the door of his TARDIS and stepped out, looking weary. Jack was the first one to notice the Time Lord. "Well, how is he?"
The Doctor shook his head. "He... he died..," he said sadly. "But..."
"He's dead?" Rob asked numbly. "I'm going to..," he growled, stepping towards the Doctor, obviously intent on causing him harm.
"What the Doctor's trying to say is that I died, but I came back," James' voice said from behind the Doctor. "So, no need to try and injure the Doctor, Rob." He gently pushed the Doctor out of his way and stepped out of the TARDIS, still wearing his blood stained clothes. "Now, I need a coffee."
"Shouldn't you be resting?" Gwen questioned, following the red head to the coffee machine. She noticed the paleness of his face and his bloodshot eyes. She also noted that his lips were slightly blue. "Maybe you should lie down."
"You look like death warmed up," Jack stated. "Or boiled over in your case."
"Rest, schmest," James snorted with a dismissive wave of his hand. "I feel perfectly fine." He poured himself a cup of coffee. "Yeah, you'd know all about that, wouldn't you, Jack?" he growled, turning to face the older man.
"Aren't you forgetting something?" Ianto questioned, quickly interjecting before the conversation could go further, indicating James' clothes. "Shouldn't you change?"
"Right," James mumbled, putting his cup down and began removing his shirt to the surprise of everyone.
"Whoa!" Rob exclaimed as James handed his top to the Doctor. "I thought I was the only one who stripped here. I'll get you some clothes." He stopped and pointed at James. "You're not to work for at least three weeks."
"But I feel fine," James said with a smirk as he watched his friend walk away. "I want to work." He picked up his cup again and started drinking from it.
"James," the Doctor began, "you need to rest." He ran his finger over the scar on the red head's stomach. "This says you should."
"What happened to the alien?" James questioned as if he just realised it had gone. "I want to do this," he insisted as he accepted the shirt thrown at him by Rob, who had come back.
"SUV," Ianto answered. "Jack and I had to re-enact King Arthur due to the force that you shoved the sword through the alien."
"It took two of you?" the Doctor asked, as he looked up from his investigation of the coffee machine.
"Don't you dare sonic it," Rob stated, pointing a finger at the Doctor and then pointing to the notice taped to the front of the coffee machine.
"I'll make sure he behaves," James answered, from his position behind the Doctor. "I'll snack...er smack him," he added with a lick of his lips as he draped an arm over the bemused Time Lord's shoulder.
"James isn't exactly light," Ianto pointed out, "or he isn't when he rugby tackles you from behind, which is a story for another time, so when he fell forward..."
"Oi!" James protested with a snarl. "Don't make me come over there, Ianto Jones," he threatened, stepping closer to the younger man.
"Jack, help, he's going to scold me," Ianto teased, moving behind Jack. "You look like the living dead." He reached forward to check the red head's pulse. He jumped when the other man reached out, grabbed his arm and began to sniff him. "What?"
"You smell nice. Good enough to eat, "James stated in a low voice, letting go of Ianto's arm.
"No biting my Ianto!" Jack scolded, "not unless he wants you to."
"Jack!" the Doctor began, looking disapproving at the ex-Time Agent.
"Are you feeling okay?" Gwen asked, noticing the predatory look in James' eyes.
"Yeah, but I do feel a bit hungry," James replied with a smirk.
"And you take it easy. I better get back to work." Rob said, disappearing into the kitchen.
"Can I come too?" James asked. "Be right back," he called as he followed after Rob. He could be heard pleading with his friend to let him work and finally Rob agreed, just as long as he takes it easy.
"And I thought I liked to work," Ianto pointed out as James came back out, wiping his mouth delicately and headed back to the coffee machine. He had a bit more colour in his cheeks and wasn't looking so much like the walking dead any more.
"Hey! James Bar...mmffh," the Doctor broke off as James placed his hand over the Doctor's mouth.
"Don't ever use my full name," James growled, leaning towards the Doctor. "You talk too much, my dear Doctor," he whispered in the Doctor's ear. "I need a shower. Ianto, make sure the Doctor doesn't sonic the coffee," he ordered, moving away from the Time Lord. "You have permission to hit his hand with a wooden spoon." He didn't miss the gleeful look on Ianto's face at that, and neither did the Doctor.
"Oh no you don't!" the Doctor said, looking at his red headed friend. "I'm coming with you." He ignored the evil grin that appeared on James' face at his pronouncement. "You weren't nibbling on Rob, were you?"
"I always thought that was a given," James purred with a wink in Jack's direction. "No, I'd raided the fridge that's all. Rob, I'm going to have a shower before I start." he called into the kitchen.
"Okay, Rob said, poking his head around the door. "Have fun."
"See. Not a nibble in sight," James pointed out.
"Someone has to keep you out of trouble and make sure you don't slip in the shower," the Doctor continued with a roll of his eyes.
"That all?" James asked, looking smug. "You could at least offer to wash my back, Doctor."
