So...

My cousin and my uncle came over on Saturday. I took my cousin out to see The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian because we were bored and she thought Ben Barnes was cute and PC was the last of the CoN books that I'd read ( Read more... )

Well, C.S. Lewis wrote the books in the 1950s, when times were changing. So it wasn't really about the times he was in, but his digging in his heels in reaction to the times. Hence his barely making use of Susan despite giving her a bow and arrows, leaving her and Lucy to cry over Aslan while the menfolk fight in LWW. And I don't even want to go into the whole "Susan is damned because she couldn't find Aslan by his other name in the other world" thing because - wow, so subtle.

It just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I can see his motives for doing what he did to Susan, but I will never agree with them or like them. Or the books, for that matter.

Lol, yeah, the whole Susan/Peter vibe in the LWW movie was just completely entertaining. Maybe because it went completely against C.S. Lewis' original intentions (really, incest in a Christian series?), but I liked it. Just like the Susan/Caspian in PC - it was also kind of like Peter/Susan/Caspian, sometimes a triangle, sometimes a potential menage, lol.

Oooh, I feel the same about the Pevensies being the main characters. And the Susan's uh...fate. Or lack thereof, I guess. Especially when you do the whole Christian symoblism thing and it basically says Susan didn't get to go to heaven. Messed uppp.

I havent seen the movie yet, but I'm dyingggg to!!! Gahhh!

Yeah, I loved the part where her siblings are all blah about it, too. Just because she "forgot" about Narnia, suddenly they don't care about how it must feel for her to hear her entire family has been killed? Wow, nice message.

ITA about VDT. I've heard some people say it was their favorite book, but I was like "Why the hell should I care about Eustace and Jill? Where the hell are Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy?"

I never, ever cry at movies, but I actually shed a few tears for Susan at the end of this movie because I knew she was never coming back. Plus, seriously, why can't I live in Narnia? LOL

I really liked the movie overall. I didn't mind the Caspian/Susan departure from the canon either, because I didn't feel like it took time away from anything else. And yeah, Ben Barnes can call me. ;)

Yeah, this just summed up my reaction perfectly. Eustace and Jill could've been killed two pages in for all I cared, I wanted the Pevensies - all of them - back.

Oh, yeah. I will never stop feeling bad for Susan's fate, and probably will remain at odds with C. S. Lewis' decision for the rest of my life.

I did enjoy the Susan/Caspian, and not because Ben Barnes is hot. Well, not just because, lol. I think I read somewhere that the producer or whatever added the attraction in because he wanted it to add to Susan choosing to turn away from Narnia. And I love that, because of course it would. I mean, the next adventure has Lucy and Edmund going on an adventure with a suddenly twenty-something King Caspian who finds himself a bride on said adventures. Meanwhile, for Susan it's only been a little while since she last saw young, Prince Caspian - ( ... )
