Upcoming treatment

I'm trying to post frequently on my thoughts and such about what's going on and what it's like right now as a cancer patient, both to help myself, to keep my friends updated, but also just to support others in the future if needed....so I'm keeping all these posts public. I don't know if they'll ever help anyone other than me, but you never know ( Read more... )

I'm glad you posted about the diet. (I know I could have looked it up, but I didn't, and I was really curious.) That's a tough road to hoe! Frankly, I wasn't able to come up with more than 2 of those on my own. (Salt and fish.)

Good luck!

She sent me detailed documents (with more online) as to WHY each item is excluded too. It's kind of interesting, I never actually knew how much iodine was throughout our diet.

Is the milk b/c you don't know what's in the cow it came from?

Animals excrete iodine in their milk, plus iodine is used in both cleaning milking equipment and to clean the cows teats before milking. So all dairy is out.

Gaaaaaah, that's a pain! But it's really cool that your doctor told you exactly why each one was out. More information is always a Good Thing, especially when your life is turning upside down so much.

So, yeah, go nuts on salad. Also, go nuts with nuts? Are those OK? :)

Hang in there...

Yeah, unsalted. But I'm not a big fan. One of the problems in all this is that I'm a fussy eater to begin with. But I'll make it work.

Wow. I'm not sure what I would eat for those weeks. I mean, I know there's actually plenty of food still available, but, wow. That's a lot of exclusion.

A friend of mine has gone radioactive and done the diet, and while I remember she was unhappy about it, she made it through and survived and in the end said it was tolerable. Do you want me to play matchmaker with you guys? She might have some good food suggestions.

Sure, I'll bet any and all advice will help. I have one week to get ready before I start.
