So I'm pretty sure some of you have heard about the recent mass bannings in my MMO of choice. I gotta say, it's both amusing and sad to see all the rationalization people have for knowingly breaking the game's TOS.
I'm enjoying the comments to GM Dave's blog. "However, SE did delete the duped items. In fact they killed 2 birds with 1 stone: Delete the duped items, and punish those who exploited the glitch. Thats like boning your girlfriend right off the bed and headbutting the burglar trying to sneak into the window."
On one hand, they seem justified. On the other, I have experience with this sort of thing on an old MUD and have to say there's no faster way to kill an MMORPG that's already on the downward spiral than to do something like this.
Yeah, SE has never done a mass banning of PLAYERS before, usually when they did mass bannings it was of gilfarmers, and people who used bots.
A lot of the people that were banned were players who were with the game for a long time, and I know if say, it was a lot of El Fortoers (if everyone was still around) I would be upset, and loose my will to play.

A lot of people will probably quit now.
