special delivery

So Mom had hay delivered last weekend from some Standardbred guy that had an ad in the paper, sight unseen cause the brake lines broke on her car. A lot of it was moldy and bad. Does she send it back, ask for replacements or refunds like a normal sane person? No. She's like, "Oh, I can't do that". But she'll bitch to me about it every day of the ( Read more... )

Enjoyed the hay story.

Guinea pigs live (and -require-) hay and also get excited about it. They squeal. My cats love hay too -- they steal it all the time out of the cage.

Since I'm in the city there aren't any real feed stores I can get to, so I normally just get some pretty plain store-bought orchard hay in 6 lb. bales. My one guinea pig goes through around 3 of those a month. I used to use timothy hay but turns out I'm allergic to that. A couple of times I've scored some really great hay, like a whole garbage bag of nice fresh stuff I scored at a raffle. I've also ordered stuff from a farmer who sells boxes via eBay and that was good stuff, even though I admit buying hay via mail is rather odd. Of course what the guinea pigs really like is weeds and grass I've grabbed out of empty lots or spots along the road. They go nuts for it!

Guinea pigs are pretty much a really small kind of livestock, like teeny cows. They're pretty much ruminants and fruit & veggie freaks.

Glad you enjoyed the hay story. I love my horse, she's so fun.

Guinea pigs sound so cool. I like the little sounds they make. My mom will go into pet stores with me and "talk" to the guinea pigs and they'll usually talk right back.

6lb bales--wow, our horse bales are 80-100+ pounds each. I'd much rather pick up the 6 pounder!

Your cats eat hay? I guess mine eats houseplants, so it isn't that far out. :)
