That is good advice -- I do most of my writing while the kids have quiet time (or I did, when they were younger)...sometimes (not always) they can keep themselves occupied while I work these days. But there are days when I wish I had a sitter, I'll tell you!

I bet! "Quiet time" sounds like a blissful fantasy right now. K. isn't to the point where she's willing to play alone, yet.

I always love your pics of hikes with your kids, etc. They are lucky to have a stay-at-home mom!

I was thinking about this possibility the other day and I'm not sure this would fully work for me, because even with the babysitter in the other room, I think I'd be distracted worrying what was going on in there or expecting to be called in any minute. Another mom was telling me the other day that she couldn't get stuff done in her house without telling the kids to come in from outside, because she needed back the part of her brain that was worrying about them! Now, I did just manage to write a little bit while my husband was watching the kids downstairs, but normally even when he's home to watch them I go away to a library or something, or encourage him to take them outside! Hearing all their noises makes it hard for me to concentrate on writing ( ... )

"Mother's Day Out" sounds perfect! Hope you will find a good program in your new city. Are you staying in TX?

That seems like good advice, and it may work best for many people. I"m guessing this advice goes mostly for younger kids, and I can't remember that far back. Mine will be thirteen and ten soon.

I think I've always liked writing with them in the house, although I did participate in a baby-sitting co-op for a while. That helped. Because of medical issues, mine could never be left in daycare.

But then I didn't write a lot when they were very small. I was still doing mostly magazine work and product reviews.

Wow, Kay! I can't believe you're going to have a teenager, soon! Time flies...

Baby sitting co-op is great. Maybe wherever we end up I'll be able to find a trustworthy mother who also writes to do a co-op with.
