This being the second week of school, the students in the kiddo's class have been doing some assessment testing for reading and math so the teacher can figure out where everyone's strengths and weaknesses lie. That's great! Do you know what testing system they're using? In my experience, the tests are actually accurate to within one month or so in either direction, and are actually better than longer and more difficult tests at pegging a child's level. But without knowing which tests are being used, I can't be sure they're the ones I'm familiar with. :)

It's one I'm not familiar with, but the STAR Math computer-adaptive math test, and the STAR Reading(R) computer-adaptive test. To be honest, it being given on a computer rather than having written or a bubble-in test might be another reason he performed so well. He loves computers and his weekly computer lab, so this was probably way fun for him.

It is and I'm thrilled about it. I had no doubts about his intelligence, never have, but I do know how hard it can be to do well on assessment tests and the like.

Yeah, and how sensitive it can be - especially at that age - to feel that you've done badly and are lagging behind other children. Even if he'd have caught up eventually, I'm glad your kid is spared some of that!
