Summary: When Jade meets and befriends two fangirls after a concert, AFI gets more than they bargained for.
Disclaimer: I own no one but Jessy, Manda, and a few other OCs.
Part One It was nearly thirty minutes before Davey and Jade resurfaced. During that time, Mandy and Jessy didn’t say a word to one another. Every once in a while, they’d look at one another before dissolving into giggles.
Jade lead Davey into the room. Their hair was still wet, sticking to their necks and a few wild hairs stuck to Davey’s cheek. Droplets of water slid down their pale skin from their undried hair and Jessy watched in fascination as one droplet ran along Jade’s neck.
Out of nowhere, Jessy squeaked loudly and shot out of her chair, half tackling Jade in her excitement as she threw her arms around him in a huge hug. Jade stumbled backward into Davey, who shot Jessy a mild glare. Mandy laughed and moved to rescue the two from her best friend.
“Sorry. She’s excited.” Mandy muttered.
“Um… Apparently.” Jade muttered.
Jessy broke away. “Sorry. Couldn’t help it. I LOVE being right. Ha, Manda, screw your Advey!”
Mandy snorted and Davey rose an eyebrow. Jade looked slightly offended. “Advey? You’re an Advey fan?”
“Only because it pisses her off. She’s fun to make mad.” Mandy answered.
Jessy stuck her tongue out at Mandy before turning back to Jade and Davey. “Okay, do you want me to harass you for details now or later?”
Davey smiled and Jade clapped a hand over his mouth. “Dave, hush.”
“No! No hushing. I’m serious.” Jessy argued.
“That’s why it’s so scary. IF I thought you were joking I’d let him tell you to freak you out. I do NOT want you stalking us even more.”
“I don’t stalk.”
Mandy laughed. “Never mind, Jess. Just give up.”
Jessy pouted. “But -At least make out for me!”
Jade smirked and turned towards Davey, removing his hand at last. “Think we can make her pass out?”
“Let’s see.”
Jade sauntered closer to Davey, pushing Davey backwards until he was pressed up against the doorway separating the living room from the kitchen.
Davey gave Jade an enticing and seductive look that only he could pull off. Jade let out a sound akin with a groan before smashing his lips against Davey’s lips, demanding entrance, which he was readily given. Jade’s tongue slid across Davey’s, pushing as close as possible with their clothes still on. Davey sucked lightly on Jade’s tongue as his hands slid under Jade’s shirt.
There was a dull ‘thunk’ and Jade and Davey reluctantly broke apart. Jade looked over his shoulder. Jessy was now sitting awkwardly on the floor. Davey, Jade, and Mandy all looked at her with identical, confused looks.
“Um… I fell over.”
It took two seconds to sink in before they all started laughing hysterically. Davey did that adorable crinkle-thing at the corner of his eyes, which only made the other three laugh harder. Mandy tried helping Jessy up, but ended up sprawled on the floor half next to her and half on top of her.
“Ow!” she giggled. Jessy laughed harder, struggling to breath. Davey and Jade were having problems standing, as well, though they had the aid of a wall.
It took several minutes before any of them managed to get a hold of themselves. Davey was the first to stop, his laughter fading into giggles and then into a bemused smile.
“Why are we laughing? It wasn’t THAT funny.” He asked.
Jade shrugged. Mandy giggled, though she was able to breath now. “Jessy does that to people. The smallest thing’ll set her off. And it was funny you two made her fall over with that hot kiss.”
Jade flashed a grin. “What can I say; we’re good.”
Jessy giggled. “From the sounds coming from downstairs, it’d appear Davey is good, at any rate.”
Davey blushed and looked away while Jade frowned. “Wait, are you saying you don’t think I’m any good.”
Jessy grinned. “Well, let us listen in on you topping Dave and I’ll answer you.”
”JESSY!” Mandy shrieked, blushing.
Jade was staring at Jessy like he didn’t know whether he ought to be amused or terrified. Davey laughed, eyes crinkling at the sides.
“Jade, you were right back in St. Louis. Fans are too interested in our sex life.”
“At least this particular fan, at any rate. Jessy and Mandy were actually the ones I heard speculating about us.” Jade explained with a slight smile.
Jessy blinked “When? At the café?”
“No. Before the show began, during Dillinger. I like walking through the crowd before a set.”
Jessy frowned. “And you heard us…? That guy helped us to the front, which was great… Wait! Were you wearing a hat?”
Jade nodded. “Yeah. Covers my hair at least.”
“And you actually noticed us?” Mandy squeaked.
Jade shrugged. “Jessy’s rather vocal views that Davey and I should hook up caught my attention.”
Jessy grinned. “See, good things come from being slightly obsessive.”
Mandy rolled her eyes. “I’m still not sure whether you’re still classified as ‘slightly obsessive’ or if you’ve crossed the line into ‘restraining-order obsessive’.”
Jessy just grinned. Jade glanced over at her. “We’ve dealt with ‘slightly obsessive’ before. Jessy’s definitely ‘restraining-order obsessive’.”
Jessy shot him a glare. “Thanks a bundle.”
Jade shrugged. “Anytime.”
Jessy stuck her tongue out. “Davey, Jade’s being mean! You won’t really put a restraining order on me, will you?”
“Of course not, my dear. If we put a restraining order on everybody who wanted to see us naked, we’d have to put one on Smith and find ourselves a new tour manager, which is really too much of a hassle.”
Jessy giggled, throwing her arms around Davey in a random hug, pecking him on the cheek. Davey shook his head, falling back onto the couch. Mandy sunk down beside him, staring thoughtfully at his sleeve of tattoos. Jade sat down on his other side, Jessy beside him. Davey looked at Mandy’s face, slightly amused by her expression.
“Just ask.”
“Huh?”
“Whatever you want to ask, just ask.” Davey repeated.
Mandy blushed. “Oh. Well, um, I was just wonder… Can I see all of your tattoos?”
Davey laughed. “Sure.”
He reached up and removed his shirt. Mandy’s jaw dropped open, Jessy leaned forward almost drooling at the sight, and Jade once again drank in the beauty that was Davey with hungry eyes.
Davey bent down and pulled up his pant leg to unzip the boots he wore (which came to mid-calf) pulling them off along with the bright pink socks he wore underneath. He sat back and held out a heavily tattooed arm to each girl.
Jessy eagerly leaned across Jade, nearly sitting on top of him, to stare in awe at the amazing designs. She reached out tentatively and gently traced one of the Halloween themed tats.
“Um, Davey, should I be scared?” Jade asked.
“No.” Mandy answered, eyes never leaving the arm she was admiring, “You never have to worry about Jessy. She’d rather die than break up her Javey.”
Davey smiled. “Aw, that’s kinda sweet.”
“Only you would find that sweet, Dave.” Jade muttered.
Jessy glanced up briefly, frowning slightly. “Huh?”
Mandy laughed. “Nothing, Jess. Jade’s just mildly jealous that you’re drooling over Davey’s tattoos.”
“Oh. Don’t freak, Jade. You’re gonna get the same treatment.”
Jade once again wore that horrified expression he was quickly perfecting in Jessy’s presence. Davey just shook his head, switching arms so that the girls could ogle over the other sleeve of tattoos.
After they were finished with his arms, Davey laid his head on Jade’s shoulder, pulling his ear forward to show one of his two heart tattoos.
“Oh, they’re so small and cute.” Jessy cooed. She paused, blinked, and grinned. “You know, I bet they’re the only attribute you have that can be called small and cute and you not be offended.”
“I can vouch for Davey not being small.” Jade grinned. Jessy and Mandy immediately cracked up.
Jessy opened her mouth to say something, but snapped it closed. Very dimly, she could hear music. She strained to figure out what the song was before grimacing.
“Please tell me I’m not hearing Gnarles Barkley.” She pleaded, clapping her hands over her ears and leaning her head on Jade’s knee.
Jade laughed. “That’d be my cell phone.” He explained, getting up and disappearing into the guest bedroom. He came back, phone at his ear. “Hello… Um, a couple of fans offered us a room… I don’t know, you’ll have to ask Addy… No, Hunter’s with him… Okay… Yeah… Sounds good. Play nice with the driver; it’s not his fault… Oh, shut up, Smith, I’m allowed to be happy… Meany… Okay, good-bye.”
Jade hung up and sat back down. Davey looked at him, brow furrowed in question.
“Smith’s gonna talk to the manager of the venue and re-schedule. He’ll make sure everyone who bought tickets will get some this time, too.”
Davey nodded, still not happy about having to cancel. He didn’t want to disappoint his fans. “Okay… we’ll do something extra for them, too.”
Jade nodded, knowing Davey had to personally do something and just re-scheduling wasn’t enough. “What’d you got planned.”
A smile spread across Davey’s face and Jade eyed him nervously. “You’ll see.”
They all finally went to bed a few hours later, about six in the morning. Jade slid into the big bed him and Davey were to share and opened his arms in invitation. Davey climbed in beside him and cuddled close, his head on Jade’s chest. Jade’s fingers raked through his hair in a calming motion.
“I miss your hair.” Jade murmured.
Davey laughed softly. “It was your idea to cut it.”
“I know. I’m allowed to be stupid sometimes.”
Davey rose a hand to his hair, fiddling with it nervously. “Is it really that bad?”
“No. It’s not bad at all, really. I just miss playing with it.”
“You’re easily amused.”
“Maybe. Mmmm, I’m tired.”
“So go to sleep.”
“I can’t. You keep talking to me.”
Davey laughed again, but stopped talking. He snuggled closer to Jade and closed his eyes, falling asleep quickly.
The next morning, Davey was woken by Jade’s phone vibrating against his leg. Jade could quite honestly sleep through anything, so Davey fished the phone out of Jade’s pants pocket and answered it.
“Hello?”
“Dave?” Adam asked on the other line.
Davey rubbed at his eyes. “Yah, Ad, what’s up?”
“I just talked to Smith. He’s rescheduled for tomorrow. We’ve gotta leave soon and the bus is fixed.” *
Davey smiled. “That’s good news. I’ll, um, have to wait for Wanda -Mandy’s mom -to wake up, though.”
“Okay. See you later, then.”
“Later, Addy.”
Davey hung up and leaned over Jade, a small smile playing across his lips. He leaned down and kissed Jade softly before climbing out of bed and quietly leaving the room.
“Morning.”
Davey jumped and turned around, coming face to face with a smiling Jessy.
“What the hell are you doing up?” Davey asked, a hand pressed over his heart.
Jessy shrugged. “I don’t know. When I stay up late, I get up early. Its weird, but its what happens.”
Davey laughed. “Jess, I’ve pretty much determined that you’re weird, so I’m not sure why your oddities are surprising me.”
“You’ll never get use to it. I’ll always end up surprising you.”
Davey cocked his head at her. “Are we friends?”
“Hopefully. I really want to get a tee-shirt that says ‘I befriended Davey Havok at Wal-Mart’.”
Davey giggled. “I’ll buy it for you.” He promised. “We’ll make it bright pink and purple, too.”
Jessy shook her head as they went into the living room. “Okay, I know why I’m up, why are you?”
“Adam called. The vibrating cell phone woke me up. Jade just happens to sleep like a log.”
Jessy laughed as she sat down in ‘her’ chair, while Davey sat down in Mandy’s. “I once found these myspaces that I thought were you, Smith, and Jade… According to them, Smith got drunk once and stripped Jade while he slept.”
“Well, we’ve never had a myspace besides the AFI one, but Smith does have a bad habit of doing that.” Davey explained.
Jessy laughed. “Oh, what I wouldn’t give to be there with a drunk Smith.”
“Oh! I’m sorry, Jessy, can you wake Wanda… Or Mandy. Jade and I gotta go. Smith’s rescheduled the show for tomorrow.”
“I’ll go wake Manda… I’m not comfortable enough here to wake up Wanda, yet… Plus, she’ll want to say good-bye.”
Davey made a strange humming sound in the back of his throat, earning him a strange look from Jessy. “What?”
Jessy smiled and shook her head. “Nothing.” She muttered. “Come on, we’re gonna go wake Manda… She’ll be less inclined to kill me with you there.”
Davey was whispering something into Jade’s ear in the back of the van. Jessy and Mandy were singing along with the radio, which was cranked up rather loud. Jade nodded once and Davey grinned. Jade finally began paying attention to the song that was playing.
And these are the lives you'd love to lead
Dance, this is the way they'd love
If they knew how misery loved me
You always fold just before you're found out
Drink up its last call
Last resort
But only the first mistake and I...
I'm two quarters and a heart down
And I don't want to forget how your voice sounds
These words are all I have so I'll write them
So you need them just to get by
Why don't you show me the little bit of spine
You've been saving for his mattress, love
Dance, Dance
We're falling apart to half time
Dance, Dance
And these are the lives you'd love to lead
Dance, this is the way they'd love
If they knew how misery loved me
Why don't you show me the little bit of spine
You've been saving for his mattress (mattress, mattress)
I only want sympathy in the form of you crawling into bed with me
Dance, Dance
We're falling apart to half time
Dance, Dance
And these are the lives you'd love to lead
Dance this is the way they'd love (way they'd love)
Dance this is the way they'd love (way they'd love)
Dance this is the way they'd love
If they knew how misery loved me
Dance, Dance
Dance, Dance
Dance, Dance
Dance, Dance
Davey and Jade sang along just as loudly as Mandy and Jessy, putting the girls to shame, not that either girl was surprised. Jessy and Mandy were a fit of giggles by the end of it.
“What’s so funny?” Davey asked.
“You… Singing Fall Out Boy. Its just funny.”
“Why?”
Jessy shrugged. “’Dance, Dance’ is just a far cry from ‘Miss. Murder’ and your other usual semi-depressive songs.”
Davey chose not to comment, being as she had a point. The next song came on and Jessy groaned. “TURN IT OFF! TURN IT OFF!”
“I remember, I remember, I remember when I lost my -”
Mandy switched stations, giggling madly. Jade frowned. “You know, there’s nothing wrong with that song… I mean, I love it.”
“You’re allowed to be wrong sometimes.” Jessy shrugged. “It’s a pointless song.”
Mandy rolled her eyes. “Jessy, you love ‘Steady as she Goes’.”
“So. I don’t know why I like that song. And you hate ‘Crazy’, too, Manda.”
“Yeah, but I’m not arguing with Jade over it.”
“I’m just trying to show him the error of his ways.”
Mandy rolled her eyes but didn’t say anything. It was best to just not argue with Jessy. You’d never get her to shut up.
They pulled into the Wal-Mart parking lot and Davey, Jade, Mandy, and Jessy all climbed out. Jessy gave Davey a hug and then Jade while Mandy mirrored her actions. Davey laughed.
“One minute, I have something to ask your mother.”
Mandy watched him walk over to Wanda and talk to her quietly through the window of the van. Eventually, Wanda nodded and Davey grinned. He looked over at Jade, who rolled his eyes.
“How’d you two like to go to California with us?” Jade asked. Jessy and Mandy looked at one another before nearly tackling Jade in a hug. “Hey, it was Davey’s idea!” he protested. Jessy laughed and broke away, moving to hug Davey, who readily accepted the show of affection, instead.
“Wait… I got to call my guardians.” Jessy exclaimed. Jade handed her his phone and she punched in the numbers.
“Hello?” Jessy’s grandmother answered.
“Yah, Grandma? Hey, I got a HUGE favor to ask…”
“Uh-huh?”
“Well, um, see you’re never going to believe this, but I’m total serious and if I’m lying you can burn all of my Fall Out Boy posters, but Manda and I ran into Jade Puget last night in Wal-Mart.”
“Who?”
Jessy sighed. “Jade Puget. The guitarist from AFI, you know that band I love.”
“Oh, yes… the one with all the weird hair.”
“Yeah, that one. ANYway, so we offered Jade and Davey a place to crash last night because they’re bus had a flat tire and now they’re offering to take us to California to make up for it, so can I please, please, please go?”
“No.”
“WHAT? Grandma, come on, please.”
“No, Jessica, you don’t know them. They’re how old?”
“Thirty something.” Jessy answered, ignoring the huff that came from Davey.
“Why would they want to take two teenage girls to California?”
“To repay us. Look, you don’t have to worry about them raping us or anything. They’re gay. And kinda together. We’re just going to go and see a show and hang out.”
Her grandmother sighed heavily. “How will you get home?”
Jessy pulled the phone away. “How are we getting home?”
Davey glanced at Jade. “Um… We’ll fly you back. Smith can accompany you on his way to the next venue.”
“They said they’d pay for a plane ride back.” Jessy told her grandmother.
“Fine… But call me when you get there, before you go to bed… every free moment you have, you’d better be checking in.”
“Thank you! Bye.” Jessy hung up quickly before her grandmother could change her mind. “Yes! I can go!”
Davey laughed. “I don’t know why you’re so enthused.”
“Honestly? I want to meet Smith. Plus, I’m dying to find out what this surprise you have planned.”
Mandy giggled and threw an arm around Jessy’s shoulders. “Hey, but we didn’t bring any clothes.”
“Don’t worry about it…” Davey said. “You’re not wearing Wal-Mart pants around me, anyway. I’ll take you shopping.”
“You don’t have to do that.” Jessy and Mandy said at the exact same time.
“I know… I just love shopping and Smith won’t let me buy any more clothes until our US tour is over. No more will fit on the bus.”
Mandy hugged her mother good-bye, much calmer than Jessy thought she’d be considering she’d never been away from Wanda for any lengthy period of time. Jessy gave Wanda a quick hug, too, before they were directed onto the bus.
“Um… Davey, what’s going on?” Hunter asked, eyeing the girls nervously.
Davey shrugged. “Nothing. Why?”
“Are they coming with us?”
“Well, Nils didn’t come with us this tour, so we have plenty of room.” (A/N: Actually, I have no idea what’s up with Nils or if he did go on tour with them… I haven’t heard anything about him recently.) Davey said. “Besides, I wanted to repay them for their hospitality.”
Adam rolled his eyes. “Typical Dave.”
Davey glared. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
“Exactly what I said. Typical Davey.”
“Actually, Adam, you said ‘typical Dave’.” Jade remarked, shutting the bus door behind him, as he was the last one on. Adam shot him a dark look.
“Thanks ever so much, Jade.”
“Anytime.”
“Come on, my dears, and I’ll show you where you’re sleeping. Who wants Nils' bed?” Davey said to Jessy and Mandy, leading them away towards the beds. Jade watched with a bemused smile.
“So, how’d it go last night?” Hunter asked. “Apparently you survived and Davey at least made some new friends.”
Jade sat down on the couch. “It was good. Strange, exceedingly so, but fun. And I think they’re my friends, too… See what I mean about strange?”
“Jade made friends? Are we in the twilight zone?” Hunter asked, turning to face Adam. Jade glared and smacked Hunter upside the head. “Ow, what was that for?”
“I’m not that bad. You make me sound like an angry old man.”
“Well, you got the ‘old’ part right.”
Jade’s eyes narrowed even further. “I’m only two years older than you, Hunter Burgan and at least I’m not bald!”
“Hey! Not nice… and I could grow it back if I wanted.”
“Oh, yah? Prove it.” Jade taunted.
“Prove what?” Davey asked returning with Jessy and Mandy.
“Hunter’s still in denial that he’s going bald. He said he could grow his hair back.”
Jessy grinned. “Oh, do it! You looked awesome with your spiky hair.”
Hunter looked thoughtful. “Tons of people do say they miss my hair.”
“We’re fans, right… Take our advise. Hair on you is a good thing. And Davey really ought to grow his back out again. Jade’s got good hair… And Adam… Well, no offense Adam, but you really haven’t changed much. You still look the same.”
“Gee, thanks.” Adam replied dryly.
“Hey, she never said that was a bad thing!” Mandy jumped in, promptly blushing.
Jessy laughed and gently shoved Mandy, giving her a knowing look. Mandy just glared.
The trip out to California was relatively quick. It didn’t take long for Jessy and Mandy to make themselves at home on the bus (though they virtually stole the laptop a lot) and the band quickly grew accustomed to them. Nevertheless, everyone was thankful to get out of the bus and into a hotel, Davey and Jade especially since they had yet to tell Adam or Hunter about their change in relationship. It was taking everything Jessy and Mandy had not to spill, but really it was Davey and Jade’s secret to tell.
Hunter was the first off the bus, followed quickly by Adam. Davey, Mandy, Jessy and lastly Jade followed suit. Smith was waiting for them in the lobby and Jessy grinned.
“SMITH!” she exclaimed, basically skipping forward to hug him tightly.
“Um… Davey, help… I seem to have gotten a leech at some point.”
“Jessy, restrain yourself.” Mandy laughed, pulling her friend away. “Hey, Smithy.”
“Should I know you? Look, I’m sorry, but I was really, really drunk and I can’t remember you.”
Davey laughed. “Smith, this is Jessy and Mandy, the girls Jade and I stayed with in Iowa.”
Smith blinked. “So, we’ve never met?”
Jessy shook her head. “Nope.”
“Cool. Anyone got a beer?”
“Yes, Smith, because I carry one with me everywhere.” Jade rolled his eyes, standing beside Davey, the back of their hands barely touching.
Smith shot him a glare. “I’m off to find beer. You guys have to be at the venue in three hours, so be back here in two. Other than that, I don’t care where you go. I only have four hours to get piss drunk. I’m really behind.”
With that, Smith walked off, presumably towards his room. Davey linked his arms with one of Jessy’s and one of Mandy’s.
“So, we’ve got two hours to kill… Do you know what that means?”
“Um… Sleep until its dark out?” Mandy suggested. “I hate the sunlight.”
“Nope! Shopping. And don’t worry, we’ll take my parasol.” Davey announced, leading them outside. “Be right back.”
Davey bounced into the bus, returning moments later with his white parasol. He unfurled it and held it above his head, once again linking arms with Jessy while Mandy just held onto the bicep of the arm holding the parasol. They started off down the street, giggling.
“There’s this awesome vinyl store around here somewhere I have got to show you… Um… two blocks over there’s a really good place to buy the really good vegan makeup products… A whole shop devoted to PVCs right near it… Of course, you have your Hot Topic, too… And little, tiny shops where you can sometimes find some really good boots or arm-warmers… a few vintage stores that are decent…” Davey listed in rapid succession.
Jessy’s jaw dropped. “Hey, Manda…?”
“Yah?”
“Maybe shopping with Davey Havok wasn’t such a good idea.”
“Oh, hush.” Davey scolded. “Let’s go in here.”
Two hours, thirteen shops, and three bathroom breaks later, Jessy and Mandy were exhausted, loaded down with bags, and struggling to keep up with Davey (who was carrying more bags but happened to be in much better shape).
“Da-vey,” Jessy whined. “Weren’t we supposed to be back at the hotel by now.”
Davey sighed. “Oh, yah… And I was just getting warmed up.”
“Yes, but you’ve got to get to the venue.” Mandy reminded him, praying he’d just let them go back to the hotel and crash for a few hours.
“I know, I know… We can go.”
“Good… Now, which way?”
Davey looked around and bit his lip. “Um… I’m not sure.”
Jessy stopped walking. “What?”
“I kinda got turned around. Smith’s usually with me and he keeps me from getting lost.”
Mandy groaned. “Now what?”
Davey shrugged. “We call Smith and hope he’s not too drunk.” He said, handing Jessy his bags (the poor girl whimpered and sagged under the added weight). He dug out his cell phone and dialed a number, Smith presumably. “Hey, Smiffers…? Yes, I realize I’m late… No… I got kinda lost…. The corner of 7th and Greensburg Drive… Okay… a left… okay… right… right… two blocks down… left… okay… okay, see you soon.”
“Davey how far away are we?” Jessy sighed.
“About six of seven blocks.”
Jessy groaned.
Jessy and Mandy stood on either side of Smith, dressed in their new Davey-approved clothes, once again stuck listening to Dillinger (though, luckily, this time they thankfully had earplugs given to them by Smith, who they were eternally grateful to). It was Dillinger’s last song and not long after that, AFI’d be hitting the stage. The girls were dead center, pressed against the side of the stage by the shoving crowd behind them.
Davey had had fun picking out their clothes for the night. Mandy wore new black and red Vans, a pair of loose, black slacks that had thin red pinstripes, and a red tank top beneath a loose, sheer black shirt. Jade had spent a good half hour playing with her hair before he settled with twisting it into a knot similar to the ones Davey use to wear, complete with black chopsticks to hold it in place. Davey had given her red eye shadow and black eyeliner, a bit of mascara, and lip-gloss that darkened her lips just a bit.
Jessy wore similar pinstripes, hers more form fitting and off-white, along with chunky boots that were no doubt going to kill her feet and a black and white corset-style tank top. Black torn arm-warmers went halfway up her arms, stopping just past her elbows. Her black hair was loose and curled into tamed waves and ringlets. Her eyes were shadowed with black eye shadow, liner, and mascara and she wore clear lip-gloss that made her lips shimmer slightly.
“This is what I brought you, this you can keep…” Davey began as he came onstage. Jessy and Mandy joined in the cheers, clapping loudly. Davey smiled at them and winked. “This is what I brought you, may forget me. I promise to depart, just promise to sing, kiss my eyes and lay me to sleep.”
The rest of the band joined Davey; Hunter nodded towards the girls, Adam saluted them with his drumsticks, and Jade sent them a smile as they all began to play.
As Prelude came to an end, Davey grinned at the crowd. “Hello, hello. Its good to be back in San Diego (A/N: I feel SO stupid and so silly, but I can’t honestly remember if it was San Diego that AFI went to after New York…. I THINK it was, but it’s been too long. If I’m wrong and anyone knows for sure, please tell me so I can correct it.) We had to cancel and we’re really sorry, but we got a flat tire in Iowa. But we’re here now so can you all scream for me?”
The crowd screamed, as directed.
“Good, good. Well, something good did come from our Iowa breakdown. We meet two really sweet fans, who happen to be here tonight. Not only that, but Jade and I have some amazing news to share with you all. Our fans mean everything so instead of you finding out through a magazine or something on line, we figured we’d let everyone know right here, right now… So everyone get your cameras and video cameras and cell phones ready because you’re going to want to capture this.”
Jessy’s jaw dropped. “He’s going to tell everyone? Now?”
“Apparently…”
“Mandy, camera, now.”
“I don’t have one with me!”
“Ahhh, Davey you’re in big trouble!”
Smith chuckled. “Don’t worry… The venue always has someone taking pictures for us.”
“Oh… Good… I want copies.”
Smith nodded, taking another swig from his beer.
Jade swung his guitar around so it was resting across his back, the neck hanging near his legs. Davey’s features shifted into his ‘come hither’ look as he sauntered closer to the guitarist, who smirked.
“What are they doing, anyway?” Smith asked curiously.
“Just watch.” Mandy and Jessy said as one.
One of Davey’s arms slid around Jade’s waist and Jessy could tell by the squeak behind her that she was near a fellow Javey fan. Jade’s arms slid around Davey as well as they leant towards one another, sharing a sweet kiss. The cheer from the crowd was deafening, though there was also the expected boos and jeers of outrage (but really, who cared what those imbeciles thought).
Davey pulled away. “I love Jade. I have for a while and apparently was very blind. You all mean so much to us, and we’re very sorry if you don’t approve. Now… How about we get back to the screaming?” He told the crowd. “How many of you know any of AFI’s old songs?”
There were the typical screams of joy as Davey launched into Days of the Phoenix. Jessy and Mandy jumped, danced, and moshed for the rest of the concert, relishing in the music of one of their favorite bands and their newfound friends.
“Are you sure about this?” Davey asked.
Jessy took a deep breath, squeezing the life out of Mandy’s hand. “Uh-huh…”
Davey nodded and pressed the tattoo needle against the skin of her wrist. Jessy squeezed her eyes shut and whimpered a bit, biting her lip hard. Davey worked quickly, drawing the script and the ribbon effortlessly for the next hour. When he finished, he helped Jessy stand from her chair and gave her a quick, comforting hug and a kiss on the cheek.
“Mandy? Your turn.”
Mandy sunk into the chair Jessy vacated. It was her time to squeeze Jessy’s hand as the Davey switched needles and changed gloves before he pressed the new needle into her skin. When Davey was finished, Jessy’s hand was badly bruised.
The girls held their wrists side by side. In scrawling script Jessy’s read ‘Express Yourself’ and Mandy’s finished the saying with ‘Follow Your Soul’. Jessy laughed shakingly and hugged one another tightly before hugging Davey as well.
“Thanks, Davey.” Mandy whispered.
Jessy kissed Davey’s cheek. “Yeah, thanks… It means a lot.”
It had been months since California. Both Mandy and Jessy talked to the guys (including Smith) at least once a week on the phone, but more often than naught they could be found online, either talking on Messenger or sending or replying to an email or myspace comment.
“So, how’s Tokyo?” Jessy asked Jade.
“Its okay… Davey likes the clothes.”
Jessy rolled her eyes. “Yeah, sounds like Dave.”
“Hey… I got a question… Want to go on tour with us next year?”
Part Three A/N: This is for the * part. I know it wouldn’t exactly work out to just reschedule for the next day, but in the wonderful world of fanfic, that’s what happened.
Also, the song used is 'Dance, Dance' sung by Fall Out Boy. I don't own it either, or any of the members of Fall Out Boy (the U.S. apparently has this law against slavery so I had to let them go. Damn.)
