I have found a glimmer of inspiration. I spit out a nice little short story (inspired by a fellow LJer, I'll add), but I can see it becoming a longer running character in a series of short stories. His name is Chance Meager, and he's a rather "Calvin and Hobbes"-ish character, but not quite as odd. Sure, his daydreams take main precedent in the ( Read more... )

Have you ever read "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty," by James Thurber?

Here is a link to the upcoming Jim Carrey movie with the short story posted on it for your reading pleasure, in case you haven't. Sounds sort of similar to what you're talking about.

Well of course I've read Thurber's "Walter Mitty"...how could I not? I think that it's required reading in any creative writing class, as well as most junior English classes (along with the one about the angel that falls into the Spanish people's backyard, and they lock him up in the chicken coop like he's a circus freak...I keep forgetting that I've read that one until it's reassigned and I'm reading it again). I did not know that Jim Carrey was going to be a in a movie about it. I always pictured someone like Jack Lemmon in that role, but I can see Carrey doing a good job, too.

And yes, those daydreams are exactly the type that I'm thinking of, but more from a pre-teen's point of view, instead of henpecked married man's point of view.

Ummm okay. Didn't mean to offend you. I had to read it in JR. High.

Have you ever read a story called "The Yellow Wallpaper"? One of my favorite classic shorts.

You didn't offend...I was just saying, "Of course I read it!" like, heck yes! I really do like the story, and I think (rightfully so) that it's a staple of most English classes. It just surprised me that that's a story you picked out from my idea.

Yellow Wallpaper...hmm, doesn't sound familiar. Of course, I am terrible with titles, so who knows. Who wrote it??
