A) Are you familiar with the Nazi uses of symbols such as the Swastika, the Eagle and the SS lightning bolts?
Yes

B) Are you familiar with the history of Nazi Germany?
Somewhat

C) What would your reaction be to a Europe wide ban on the use of the symbols? (NON EU RESIDENTS; please answer for your own country.
That's just silly. They need to be known for educational purposes. And how would they ban them anyway? Very silly. America here.

D) What do you think of Freedom of Political Affiliation, Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Expression - as long as all three of these neither A) impose themselves on others and B) harm others
Freedom all the way. Just don't tread on my toes.

well I don't think the swastika should be banned b/c it is originally a spiritual symbol.
I don't know much about nazi germany, but both my grandparents were in the Hitler Youth.
And I would be discontent if they put such a ban here in canada.

I don't know if that answer was helpful, but its all I gots.

Another American here, but since I'm half Middle-Eastern, I'll deversify and say I represent India. I would be appauled if this were to happen. As sam42 said, you can't just wipe history away with some windex and a cloth. History happened, we need it to learn from.

D) What do you think of Freedom of Political Affiliation, Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Expression - as long as all three of these neither A) impose themselves on others and B) harm others

On one hand, I wouldn't care if someone practiced Totalitarian Socialism, but in the other hand certain political beliefs can lead to imposing or harming others. It's a double-edged sword. There is a reason why people say, "communism doesn't work."

A) Yes.

B) Somewhat. My mom has an entire bookshelf full of history about it, and she always tells me about what she's learned.

C) For the United States? I think that the ban would cause a riot, just because we're so sucked up with this freedom-of-speech crap. I wouldn't want a ban in fear of that.

D) I think freedom of speech, political affiliation and expression is all good so long as it doesn't offend anybody. That's the US ideal, after all. I just wish people wouldn't blow it out of proportion or change it during times of war.

Quite welcome :) Actually, I've been a bit reluctant to post there since my actual LJ account was banned on a whim... so I've been using this one to smuggle in the occasional song or two and file a request. Mwhahaha...!

Oh, there's a video for that song;

But big, but I'm told it's worth it. (I've not seen it)
