BOOK POST

I have been savoring the latest book on my list, so my previous plan of waiting until I was done with it to start my other reads, well, is looking like an increasingly dumb plan. So! Books I Read Last Month!

Doris Lessing, a mediocre mystery, and then some YA fun )

writing: original works, writing: on the art thereof, books, fangirling, musings, music, recommendations, stuck on repeat, bestest friends in the world, reading, americorps

oh Jade - what a great bunch of books, and I love that video clip with the lyrics (I was listening to that CD during my travels yesterday! I love that song.)

Also, is it
"Are we human, or are we dancers" or is it "are we dancer" (singular)
?

I AM A VERY BIG FAN OF THE MUSIC VIDEO. Although I'd like to see like a companion "Cinderella's side" video, now that I think of it. (IT IS SUCH A GOOD SONG. The album as a whole--I love what they were going for, and even if some songs are weaker [the last one is entirely too long and somewhat unappealing, and I usually skip right past "Joy Ride"], it overall is a nice cohesive whole, and it has "I Can't Stay," which is quietly one of my favorite songs EVER.)

"dancer"--he's quoting...not Lovecraft, gosh, but someone else whose name starts with an H. Um. Hunter S. Thompson. :-)

p.s. your icon, I lol'd.

Wait, I thought it was Anne Boleyn who dropped the handkerchief.

*writes about food a lot*

oh, well, you know, they were all dropping handkerchiefs back then. And making out in not-so-secluded alcoves. Oops.

food is good! I just sometimes feel like authors use it in a lazy-worldbuilding way, "oh, I'll just say they ate curry, everyone will know we're in India, cool we can move onto something else." It's like a name-drop or something without much thought put into it. And then I sigh with impatience and keep going.

HAHAHAHAHAHA

SERIOUSLY THOUGH THE ONLY ONE THAT I THINK IS NECESSARY FOR READING IS THE KING'S ROSE GO READ IT NOW i also just put her other novel on hold I AM SO EXCITE.

I AM SO EXCITED ABOUT FINISHING IT.

Awwwwwww, Harry Potter turned my sister into a reader too. IT REALLY WORKS, PEOPLE. (and Harry Potter is also an excellent example of why it is better to read the book than watch the movie.)

Okay. First of all, now I have to read The King's Rose, obviously. But a few things:

Um. Even though I like Neil Gaiman, and I quote him a lot, because he says really smart things - I didn't really like The Graveyard Book. That is, I actually didn't finish it, because by page fifty, I realized I didn't care about the protagonist at all. Which was disappointing, because the writing was unbelievable.

It sounds like I should give it another shot, though. Or will you review it? I'll wait for that.

And I read Tasha Alexander, including the courting books, and it gets a "meh" from me. It was too reminiscent of the Lady Julia Grey books and therefore didn't feel original enough.

ALSO ALSO just because I MUST RAVE: I have found another book that made me go "that was just AMAZING" the second I finished it. It's called The Lost Art of Keeping Secrets and honestly I thought it would be light reading and bit silly, and it was this exuberant, joyous, giddy ride that was bursting with life and color. I have to review it after I finish ( ... )

YES YOU DO.

Aw, really? I rather like little Bod. But yes, I'll be reviewing it, so we'll see how it goes!

Oooooooooh I don't know those books; without the problems of originality, are they still meh? (Frankly this one was slightly better than meh, but not much.)

ALL RIGHT I did find three more books to add to the (really large) stack I have that I'm reading (part of the reason I am behind is because I'm not reading Graveyard at school--too many distractions), BUT I WILL ADD THAT ONE TOO.

also--yay I am glad! I really enjoy writing them.

Hmmm. I really couldn't separate these from the Lady Julia Grey books. They were both set in very similar places, and they're both about murder mysteries. I like the LJG ones better because I like the protagonist more, but I think they're both just not shallow. A bit more than light reading. Not much more than "meh", even without the originality problems.

And whatever you do, don't read the Kirkus review for The Lost Art of Keeping Secrets because I have NEVER read a more spoilery review in my life. Ever. Quite positive but what were they thinking?
