10 Things I Love About...
Weekend Warriors
01. As you may have noticed, I'm in love with Lassiter, so any episode with lots of him is always a good thing. In this case, he starts the episode in uniform, on a horse, carrying a sword. Even the fake beard cannot detract from how attractive I find this.
02. You may also have noticed that I ship Lassiter/Shawn something fierce, so any episode with lots of them is automatically a good one. There's something about the scene at the station where Shawn is trying to convince Carlton to let him on the case, that makes me grin like a lunatic. Also, I love that Lassie says Shawn had an "episode."
03. That Shawn can perfectly recreate the minature battlefield after seeing it for "two whole minutes."
04. Juliet saluting Lassiter just like the rest of his troop.
05. Lassiter: For your edification, the re-enactment of the ba...
Shawn: Edification?
Lassiter: Yeah, edification.
Shawn: Is that legal? Like, in public? Public edification's legal?
Lassiter: It means "for your information."
Shawn: Well, why didn't you just say that?
Lassiter: For your edification...
06. "Can I wear your face wig?" I don't even care. It's just funny.
07. Gus and Shawn arguing about who Gus could play in the civil war re-enactment and Gus being swayed by Denzel. His costume is amazing. Few people could pull it off as well as he does.
08. "Gus, for your edification, they don't even have TiVo out here."
09. Shawn: Good morning father. Henry: Good morning your highness. Shawn is so pretty in this scene. I think he could pull off "playboy prince" with no problem.
10. Jules being utterly fabulous and heading into danger, even though she had to make him push her out of the tent. Gus telling her not to die is funny and cute and not remotely helpful.
Who Ya Gonna Call?
01. Shawn hiring a model to be their receptionist. One who doesn't speak English. "Does she need to?"
02. Lassiter: I thought I told you no. Shawn: But your eyes said yes.
03. Shawn and Gus's text fight. Shawn's absolute insistence that the guy is crazy. Gus's absolute insistence that he's not. That Gus has ghost hunting equipment. ♥ The trick that Shawn played on Gus. The idea that Gus has believed it for 20 years. The look on Shawn's face when Gus starts to tell him.
04. Carlton buying his wife's birthday presents. "Ex is the loneliest letter in the alphabet." He needs more hugs.
05. Shawn and Gus playing Rock, Paper, Scissors for who has to comfort Robert and Gus losing (I'd be surprised if Gus had ever won against Shawn in his life.)
06. Carlton and Juliet bonding. He seems so touched that Juliet would pay him a compliment and then a little distressed that she would think he was being sarcastic when he said thank you.
07. Lassiter: We don't have balls. Shawn: I honestly have no response to that.
08. Shawn kidnapping Gus. Gus refusing to talk to him and texting him to put his foot down.
09. Gus's French accent during questioning. Shawn: Martin Brody? Roy Schneider's character in Jaws? Amy: Yes. How did you know? Shawn: I've seen Jaws.
10. Lassiter shooting the birthday presents his wife returned. ♥
Shawn vs The Red Phantom
01. Mini!Shawn pretending to be Superman is adorable.
02. Shawn not wanting to eat cold syrup with his pancakes. LOL
03. Gus working out where Malone has gone and being the one to tell Shawn. It's always nice when Gus gets there first. Shawn looks so confused. Gus being a huge geek (again) and knowing all about comic books. Shawn mocking him for calling it "the con." Gus knowing all the people at the con and standing up for himself about how that is his turf and Shawn shouldn't embarrass him.
04. MAGIC HEAD! "Why would I need a wand when I've got a magic head?"
05. "Did that joke just arrive in a time machine from 1992?"
06. Juliet ALSO being a huge geek. She's so awesome. There aren't enough women on TV (especially attractive women) who find this sort of thing interesting. Which is weird when you think about how many women out there in the world are interested in comic books and tv shows and various fandoms. And obviously it's another nod to the fact that Juliet is Lassiter's Gus.
07. Lassiter putting on the lights and sirens to get the Chief to the hospital faster.
08. Everything about Carlton in the delivery room with the Chief. That he agrees to stay, that he tries to help, that he cuts the cord. "I would put myself on a morphine pump if I were going to push eleven pounds of limbs and elbows out of me." I love how serious he is when they hand him the baby and how much he wants one of his own. ♥
09. Gus's outrage at Shawn touching his first edition with his greasy fingers and then ripping it up. I know lives are at stake but I think everyone I know would wince at that.
10. Everyone at the hospital. Gus and Jules cooing over the babies, Shawn trying to impress Lassiter with his heroic story, Lassie remaining thoroughly unimpressed. Shawn grabbing Lassiter's hand and telling him he's a hero. Shawn saying one of the babies is evil to get out of "divining" which is the Chief's baby and them all being amused by it.
Forget Me Not
01. Shawn and Gus's lip-reading game. Shawn's "girl voice" and Gus's comment about having "abs like Bruce Lee."
02. Some guest stars I just love. This time we have Red Foreman from That 70s Show and Victoria from How I Met Your Mother. As I adore them both, WIN!!
03. I like how compassionate Shawn in is this episode. I think it's good that he's calm and serious sometimes. As fun and happy as this show is, I think everyone in this does drama really well and when they get a chance to show it, it's amazing.
04. Shawn and Gus pretending to be visiting doctors. Shawn's accent is reminiscent of Dominic Monaghan's accent in the ROTK easter egg (Have you worn wigs?) As much as Shawn sucks for forcing Gus to deliver the warthog babies, I think it's just Shawn's sense of adventure as much as him joking around. He would be excited to do it, because he hasn't before and therefore Gus should be excited to do it too.
05. Shawn and Gus at the cabin, shivering under blankets, eating crackers and sharing a disbelieving look about the ranger's assertion it had been too dry and the mountain lions were starving.
06. Shawn's horror at the idea that he looks anything like his dad.
07. "No, no, he didn't say anything. See, he can't. He's a picture on a piece of paper. And dead." I love that Carlton then addresses the poster, as though it can actually answer anyway.
08. Running! Always keep them running!
09. Lassiter calling Shawn "Sherlock". Firstly, because it's true. Shawn is pretty much a modern day Sherlock Holmes. Tons of issues. Highly intelligent. Easily bored. Excellent detective. Secondly because, come on Carlton! You just said it. Surely you can figure it out. So near and yet so far.
10. I really do like Trish. Gus getting annoyed when Shawn steps back to "let him have" a girl. I imagine the reason Gus doesn't have a girlfriend is entirely Shawn related, but more that they're scared off by Shawn rather than they choose him over Gus.
From Earth to Starbucks
01. This is my (joint) favourite episode of season 1 (along with Cloudy... Chance of Murder). There is so much love going on for everyone. I love the flashback. I love Shawn's charmed life. He's never really had to try for anything, which should make him all the more frustrating, but doesn't because it's Shawn.
02. So to one of the greatest scenes ever, with Carlton Lassiter drunk and depressed and honest. It's the scene to make you see that underneath it all he's vulnerable and a good guy who needs more hugs. I love just how honest he is, and with Shawn too, as though Shawn's the only one he could say this to (and he is). In a non-shipper way, what I eventually want from these two is an acknowledgement that they actually are friends, because I think, as far as I've seen, Shawn is (along with Juliet) one of the best friends Lassiter has. Obviously they wouldn't be themselves if they weren't arguing all the time, but there's disagreeing with someone and then there's hating them and I think this is the first time it's very obvious they don't actually hate each other. On Shawn's part, I like how confused he is at the start and then it's a lovely moment when he stops moving away and sits down to listen and tries to help. The situation sort of forces Shawn to be sincere for a change. I love sincere!Shawn. There are so many good lines too, I can't quote them all. I'll just go with one of my favourites. "Lassie... C-Carlton. I believe in you. I really do." ♥
03. Shawn tells Lassiter not to tell him a secret, but the next day Shawn hasn't even told Gus that he and his wife have been separated for two years. For all he's willing to tease him about the drinking, he's not going to spill all of Lassiter's secrets. Also, I think I will change my definition of not drinking to Carlton's. "I don't drink. Well wine at weddings. An occasional snifter of brandy. Maybe a good single malt Scotch." It sounds like drinking to me too, Gus.
04. Gus: Dude! That's a good idea, Shawn. I ditch out of work on the day we release three new products, to spend time on an unsolvable case, in which we won't get paid and someone else gets all the credit. Shawn: That, quite honestly, is some of the best nutshelling I've ever heard. Gus not fist-bumping Shawn. Twice..
05. Shawn calling himself Kkarlton Lassiter. Juliet agreeing to help. I love how much Jules cares about Lassiter, because she doesn't have to and possibly in another show, she wouldn't care as much. This actually is another of my favourite Shawn & Juliet moments, when she holds out her hand and he slaps it. They can both be very cute sometimes.
06. THE JACKAL. Gus: Consider me stealth, Shawn. Shawn: Dude that's weird. It's like you're a bobble-head. (I love that this whole thing is referenced in my favourite ever episode too- see season 3).
07. Hi, Mrs Dule Hill! You make an adorable couple. I love how excited Shawn is to fix Gus up with a girl.
08. Shawn's absolute horror at his dad dating.
09. Shawn, Gus and Juliet guiding Lassiter through the last part of the puzzle. Touching! Gus's excitement that he solved it and then handing over the credit to Lassiter. Prince. The artist formerly known as Prince. Purple. Three-way fist bump!
10. The last scene between Shawn and Lassiter. Shawn trying to be positive about the separation. Carlton honestly admitting he knows his wife doesn't want him back. Lassiter thanking Shawn and acknowledging that Juliet helped him out on the case. Shawn: Detective, you astound me Lassiter: Second half to that joke? Shawn: No.
