Aw. I'm sorry to hear about your computer. Does your laptop have a monitor port on the back? If so, you should be able to use it with an existing monitor until you can transfer the files. Normally, what I do is I burn files to a CD with something like Roxio Easy CD Creator. It'll ask you which files you want to select. I suspect you could connect the old laptop to a new one through USB, but I've never tried it. I know it automatically recognized the external drive I bought recently.

It does have a monitor port on the back of the laptop, but I tried that the other day by plugging in the monitor from the computer I'm using at this moment, but it wouldn't work for some reason. I'll try again or try using my Sony monitor. If I can get a monitor to work with the laptop, as you suggest, I'll be able to burn my photographs onto a CD, which will make me a very happy girl. ;)
