Title: Ianto's First Thanksgiving (1/11)
Author:
noneinnyetCharacters/Pairings: Jack/Ianto, Veronica/Logan, Mac, Piz (in this part, many more characters to come, especially from VM)
Rating: It'll probably be NC-17. The boys can't be left alone for long without jumping each other and I got Logan and Veronica back together so there will be sex at some point. Plus, Dick's showing up eventually, 'nough said.
Summary: Ianto and Jack have come to visit Neptune for that grand American tradition of eating, Thanksgiving.
Spoilers: Through "Exit Wounds" for Torchwood and "The Bitch is Back" for Veronica Mars.
Disclaimer: Veronica Mars, Veronica, and Logan belong to Rob Thomas and Warner Bros. Torchwood, Captain Jack, Ianto, Gwen, and Rhys belong to Russel T. Davies and the BBC. Please don't sue me, all you'll get is a pile of DVD's and a somewhat broken laptop.
Author's Note: This is a sequel to my previous VM/TW crossover,
Lovely Rainy Holiday. I'd highly suggest reading that first or you will probably be confused. Also, I know that it's probably Jack's first Thanksgiving, too, as the tradition probably didn't carry over to the Boeshane Peninsula but somehow the title I had been considering, Ianto and Jack's First Thanksgiving Adventure, sounded too much like a really odd gay porno and while this is AU like whoa, it's not quite crack!fic.
Logan was standing at baggage claim at San Diego International Airport looking for two tall, dark haired men. He had pulled the sleeves of his shirt over his hands and was nervously clasping at them. He and Ianto had kept in touch over the past four months, frequently emailing and calling each other. Logan had even spoke with Jack, Martha, and Gwen occasionally when Ianto was busy. There was no need to be nervous. I wish Veronica could have come, he thought. He'd grown dependent upon her, especially when it came to his relationship with Ianto. Despite not even knowing he had another half brother until the past summer, Logan's relationship with Ianto was the only unconditional relationship he had had with a family except for maybe with his mom.
Logan was looking at the ground briefly when he caught a flash of a familiar swishing coat. He looked up and saw Jack and Ianto grabbing their bags off of the luggage carousel. He released the bottom of his sleeves from the death grip he had them in and walked over. “Welcome to America,” he said.
Ianto turned and wrapped his brother in a hug. “Considering the fact that we had layovers in Newark and Chicago, I hardly think 'Welcome to America' is an appropriate greeting,” he said with a smile.
“Flying makes him snippy,” said Jack, clasping Logan's hand in his. “It's good to see you again.”
“You, too. I know it's November, Jack, but do you really think a wool coat is necessary in the middle of the day in Southern California?”
“Logic is not always one of Jack's strong points,” Ianto said.
“Hey!”
“We're not at work, Jack, I think I'm allowed to call you on your ridiculousness.”
“OK, as pleasant as this discussion is,” interjected Logan, “how about we head to Neptune. Veronica wants to meet us for lunch and I've actually got a class to get to later.”
“How are you and Veronica?” asked Ianto as Logan helped with some of their bags and lead the way to his Land Rover.
“Pretty well. Although I think you already know that. Veronica gossips over the phone with you more than she does with girls she's friends with. Granted, she's only friends with like two girls and one of them is my ex.”
“Mac is your ex?” asked Jack.
“No, Parker, Mac's roommate. We dated for a couple of months about two years ago. She, like apparently everyone else that knows us, realized that I still carried feelings for Veronica and dumped me.”
“Speaking of the infamous Mac,” said Ianto, “do we get to meet her?”
“I think so. She might be coming to Thanksgiving, actually. Something about avoiding camping. We might run into her sooner, though. Neptune isn't that big. Have you been talking to her much?”
“Jack has,” said Ianto.
“Veronica was right,” said Jack. “She's a genius. And I have to admire that website she helped you put together. Grademyass.net?”
“You haven't changed a bit, Jack. Have you put your own ass on there?
“My ass is beyond such criteria,” Jack said with a grin.
“Oh, I don't know,” said Ianto. “You've been eating two pastries most mornings lately and since we've added Martha to the staff you haven't had to go on quite as many Weevil hunts. I'd give it a solid A-.”
Jack growled playfully as he shook his fist.
“If you're going to threaten me either be prepared to follow through or I'll have to demote that grade to a B+.”
“You're both sick,” said Logan as he opened the back of his black Land Rover.
Veronica and Mac carried their trays to a table and Veronica pulled out her cell phone and checked her text messages.
“Logan's just parked on campus. They'll be here shortly.”
“I finally get to meet Captain Jack.”
“You actually call him Captain?”
“Seemed appropriate,” Mac said. “Added to the whole air of mystery shrouding the situation.”
“Fair enough,” Veronica said, as she looked up. “And there they are.”
Mac looked over to the doors of the cafeteria. Next to Logan she saw a man in his mid twenties, wearing a polo shirt, light jacket, and jeans. To that man's left was someone that looked straight out of a romantic comedy of the 1940s. Chisled jaw, buttoned down shirt with the sleeves rolled up, red braces over the shirt, and a wool greatcoat flung over his arm.
“Wow,” said Mac.
“Down, girl,” said Veronica. “They're all taken.”
“What else is new?” she said, slumping her chin down onto the table.
Veronica waved to get Logan's attention and the three men walked over to their table. Veronica was captured in hugs from Ianto and Jack.
“Your hair!” said Jack. Veronica's hair, which had been midway down her back last July when she and Logan had been in Cardiff, was now barely grazing her shoulders.
“It's lovely, Veronica,” reassured Ianto.
Veronica smiled before turning to her friend still seated at the table. “Mac, meet Ianto and Jack.”
“Nice to actually put a face with the genius,” said Jack.
Mac blushed before giving Jack a smile. “It's nice to meet you,” she said. “You too, Ianto.”
“My pleasure,” Ianto said.
“He is way too pleasant to be your brother,” said Mac.
Logan leaned down to give Veronica a quick kiss. “We'll be right back. It's time to introduce them to American college cafeteria cuisine.”
“Poor guys,” said Veronica. “They'll have no idea what's hit them.”
Logan led Jack and Ianto to the line when Mac tried to get Veronica's attention. “Don't look to your right, Piz is on his way.”
Veronica tried her best to look engaged in conversation with Mac but it was in vein. Piz came to stand in front of her across the table.
“Hi, Veronica,” he said with a twitch. “Mac. Just thought I'd say hi.”
“Hi,” said Veronica before looking back down at her plate of spaghetti.
“Got any plans for Thanksgiving?”
“Yeah, Logan's brother and his boyfriend are visiting from Wales. We're having dinner at Logan's.”
“So that's who those two guys with him were?”
“Yes,” Veronica said. She and Piz had broken up about a month into her internship with the FBI after freshman year. Given time and distance, Veronica realized that he really had been nothing but a rebound from Logan. When she returned to campus the following September, Piz reverted to behavior similar to before they had gone out, finding excuses to hang around when she was talking to Wallace, trying to start up awkward conversations.
“Hi, Piz,” said Logan brusquely before setting down his tray and sitting across from Veronica. Piz stepped to the side as Ianto and Jack also came up to the table and set their trays down. Ianto sat next to Logan but Jack remained standing.
“Hello,” he said with a smile. “Captain Jack Harkness.”
“Jack, don't flirt,” said Veronica.
Piz visibly stiffened at that. “What? I was just saying hello,” Jack said.
“Your words said hello but everything else said flirting,” Mac spoke up. “How do you stand it?” she asked Ianto. He merely shrugged and rolled his eyes.
“Jack, Stosh Piznarski, Piz for short,” Veronica said.
“Well, it was very nice to meet you, Stosh,” said Jack.
“Yeah, you too. I'm going to go. See you around, Veronica. And Mac,” he stammered before turning around and walking away at a quick pace.
“That's it Jack, you're not allowed to go back to Wales,” said Logan. “Anyone that can make Piz shut up and run away like that is worth keeping around.”
“Oh, he can't be that bad,” Jack scoffed. “He's kind of cute, in a floppy haired twitchy sort of way.”
Mac laughed a bit. “He's not bad,” she said. “Logan's just jealous.”
“Jealous of that?” asked Ianto, incredulously. “What, did Veronica date him?”
“Yes. But that's not why I find him annoying,” said Logan.
“Sure it's not,” Veronica said, a half smile on her face.
“It's not. Dude just won't shut up”
Veronica raised her eyebrows.
“OK, and maybe it's a bit ridiculous how he keeps following you like a lost puppy.”
“Point taken,” admitted Veronica. “I mainly still put up with him because he's Wallace's friend.”
“And who's Wallace?” asked Jack.
“My best friend from high school and all-star basketball player.”
“I dated a basketball player once,” Jack said with a sigh. “She was gorgeous.”
“Seriously, Ianto,” Mac said with a scrunched brow. “How do you stand it?”
“He's here with me, isn't he?” Ianto planted a quick kiss on Jack's cheek.
“Now, Ianto,” said Veronica. “Can we discuss the wardrobe? It's very nice. I didn't think you owned anything other than suits.”
“God, Veronica, you are such a girl when you're around him,” said Logan.
“I'm a girl all of the time, I'll have you know.”
“I know, sugarpuss,” Logan said, looking down at his cell phone to check the time. “And as lovely as this meal has been, I've got to get to class. I'll see you guys at the suite later. Mac you should stop by if you have time.” He held out his keys to Veronica. “All of their stuff is in my car. Switch?” Veronica took the keys and grabbed her own, tossing them to Logan. Logan leaned over to give Veronica a kiss before picking up his tray and spinning away.
“Did he just kind of skip?” asked Ianto.
“He does that sometimes,” Veronica said.
“And he calls you the girl?” Jack asked.
Mac had some work to do at the computer science center so they walked her over their while Veronica began giving Jack and Ianto the grand tour of Neptune. They got in Logan's car and drove about town. As they went by the high school, she told them how she had come to plant a bong in Logan's locker junior year. Veronica pulled up to a storefront and parked on the street.
“This is where I work. Want to go up and meet my dad?”
“I don't know,” said Jack. “Anyone that seems to scare the crap out of Logan as much as your father does seems quite threatening.”
“Veronica, we'd love to meet your dad. Don't mind him. I swear, Jack, you can fight half of the universe and one man, who has raised a frankly delightful daughter, frightens you? I can't believe I'm saying this to a man that is technically thousands of years old but grow up.”
