I think I am mostly without the love as well. Especially after it took me four hours to figure out which -I files were causing a problem because it didn't say. In fact it didn't even say they were a problem. Instead it just sort of worked in a semi-random fashion.
Oh, I didn't have a choice here. This is all about a Make file for my own project. And not one I created myself. Oh no. It was one I inherited which did things in at least five non-standard ways, but which I had to modify extensively because I was integrating in a half-ton of new code.
My first gut reaction was to re-write the makefile from scratch. But I was a good boy and didn't reinvent the wheel; even if it was a wheel I didn't invent. After two days of dealing with a square wheel I've come to realize I probably would have saved time if I had just done it right in the first place.
As usual. I keep telling my boss that things go faster in the long run if I avoid hacking things together in the hurried way he wants me to...
ETA: That is 'two days' of work recently, overall I have sunk about a week into fighting this chunk of crap!
Jack - if you are feeling snowed in for Christmas Eve dinner, can you make it to us? We're off of 148th by the Red West campus....One couple has said they'll make it, and our other friends may or may not - it's a long drive. Are you by BCC now? Email me if you get hungry for company and good food.
I guess whether or not I come depends on when my daughters, daughters SO's, and various grandchildren get here.
As of right now I expect them before dinner, so prolly not. However, given the weather they may wait until tomorrow morning to come, in which case yes. Will know more later.
